The ham and roast beef are good too as we were on holiday we couldn't buy the raw meat but it looked good quality. after being served we were offered tea or coffee.

Yes Keith, LOL yourself! I am quite well aware of this, BUT never seen a restaurant doing this here at individual tables as in Istanbul!

Heaven - Green Hills Restaurant on the Buffavento mountain road do traditional Turkish Mangal in the summer - each table in the garden has their own mangal . Inside is usual service - but outside is mangal as in Turkey - just choose which priced mangal menu you want .
Well they have done that over previous years !!! I have learnt never to assume anything with restaurants here !!!

I thought that "ttoli" meant that he had been to a private BBQ, because he mentioned where they had got the meat from!
Are you saying that they provide the equipment and the food, and you cook it yourself at the table?
They say that you learn something every day, and this will certainly qualify for today

Yes, Green Hills have the bbq (mangal) in the middle of the table. Have only been in the winter when the mangal is inside. You choose the meat that you want and then cook it st your leisure!

Groucho, re msg 15, see msg 12... !...Laugh even louder.... there is a Mangal halfway up the Buffavento hill.
- and we still don't know whether ttoli had been to a private BBQ or an organised DIY 'restaurant' affair - I'm always willing to learn, though!

Re: Ozankoy Butcher
That sounds like a 'recipe for disaster' if they left me to cook a BBQ! - I have been accused of trying to 'Kill people by BBQ', and banned from going anywhere near one - if I want to have a BBQ now, I have to ask IPMAN or TRNCVaughan to come around and do the honours!Spud50 wrote:Yes, Green Hills have the bbq (mangal) in the middle of the table. I took her indoors to Green Hills a couple of years ago. She went bananas, said "Why bring me to a restaurant where I've got to cook my own dinner?" I thought it was quite a novelty, but there you go. She was only appeased when the Turkish band sang a song especially for her.

Me too Keith! I might give the Mangal a whirl while my parents are here, for the novelty factor

No keith, each table was prepared with hot ashes in a tray, a beautiful copper canopy to take smoke away and the Barbie tray is pyramid shaped. You choose your raw meat and you can sit at table and put meat on whenever you want. It was a unique experience, all indoors. Felek mangalbasi restaurant. My goodness the great Keithcaley has learnt something!!!!!!

Fascinating! - I didn't even know that such places existed, although I know of a couple that used to rent out fixed BBQ positions, and allowed people to take their own food along - there was Diana Beach and Horseshoe Bay as I recall.Heaven wrote:...My goodness the great Keithcaley has learnt something!!!!!!
As I said before, it would be disastrous if I attempted it - my experience at 'Stone Grill' was bad enough

That is the one! The pipes that take the smoke away go all around the ceiling. Lovely owner.

As someone has already said, Green Hills restaurant on the mountain road, close to Arapkoy..... fabulous experience, hot coals and BBQ in the middle of the table, choose your meat and cook it when you want. Canopy above to take away the smoke/smells..... don't think I would do it in the height of the summer though, gets a bit warm. In summer they used to have tables outside and provide mangals .

Sounds like a Korean barbecue . I agree wouldn't want to cook my own all the time but nice for something different. Will give it a go next time we are out
