Rubbish left on beaches

The amount of Rubbish left on beaches after the holiday weekend was appalling!

Do these people have no pride in their Country or any regard for the environment?

They behave like animals!

This is Southend Beach, and I'm talking about the British!

I see it everywhere, on the beaches, in the parks, on the streets, in the open countrysides, and if there is a vacant lot in the neighbourhood, everyone dumps their trash there, including the kitchen sink. Where are the municipal laws (if there are any)?

I just drove across Europe and the two worst places for litter were UK and TRNC

Yes, I saw the photo of the littered beach... there was one photo with an umbrella in the foreground. I remember the first time I walked down to the waters edge in Kyrenia, to look at the beautiful clear aqua water. There was submerged plastic bottles, plastic bags, and you name it... floating in the water. someday we will ALL pay for this.

I haven't been across europe, but I can tell you that in the Sahara desert in Tunisia, even 300 miles from any civilisation, the great sand dunes are littered with plastic bottles and bags. While staying overnight at an oasis, in the morning there were 3 women from Switzerland bathing in the pristine water of the oasis spring... sudsing it up with their shampoo, and discarding the bottles. No regard for the environment at all.

Whilst serving in Croatia and local countries adjacent to it, I was amazed at the amount of rubbish dumped alongside roads, rivers and forests. It appears to be a Mediterranean trait. In Gibraltar all rubbish and wrecked cars was dumped in the sea of Europa Point apart from the stuff we had to collect from the areas under MoD control.

As others have said, it’s not just UK and TRNC, it’s most countries. We were in Thailand earlier this year and some of deserted beaches had loads of rubbish on them, washed up from the sea. Most of the Middle East countries are the same.

Unfortunately, we are drowning in a sea of plastic. Unfortunately, some of the cleanest beaches are those of resorts where they get their staff to clean up periodically.

I was deliberately being contentious ("How unlike him" I hear you say - NOT ) because I think that we do have a tendency to castigate the locals in TRNC, and it's really not just a local phenomenon is it?

When I used to visit Diana Beach, I was amazed at the amount of stuff that the wind and waves deposited on the Beach - quite apart from the tons of seaweed!

With Cyprus being tucked into the Eastern corner of the Med, and the prevailing wind coming from the West, everything from Gibralter Westwards ends up here...
