Converting upstairs terrace

We are considering building onto an upstairs terrace that we use very little, to convert in to a useable space. Not sure if we should use steel/metal or other suitable material. Has anyone done this, what advice can you give?

One that I've seen locally (first floor apartment); looks like half the terrace used, appears to be timber and glass... Has been there about two years now.

I think Izzy's (Sparks DIY, main rd Lapta) are doing one in steel at the moment. Might be worth making enquiries, see if you can view the works?

We did ours years ago when we found it was not being used at all and as it was a flat roof we wanted to ensure we had no problems in the future. We have converted it into A a rather large bedroom, walk in dressing area and en suit. bathroom we have outside access and use this to accommodate friends and family on visits. They Therefore have their own independence. We had ours built in brick with a metal roof. Make sure the foundations are suitable for the structure you want to build and my advice is to employ an architect. They will seek planning permission and supervise the building work. We incorporated the extension as part of the villa and not just an add on. Makes a lot of difference and increases value. We live in Ozankoy and you are more than welcome to visit and get some ideas.

We wanted to do something similar, (albeit downstairs) and we told we could not as we didn't have our full title deeds, although we could if we made sure it could be dismantled i.e. not a permanent feature. We were also told by the authorities that even if we did have our title deeds we would have to go back to the original architect who designed the house. At the time we believed what we were told and did not go ahead. Too late now!!

We do have our own Kocan, so hopefully that is not a problem.

Hi Laptatony, do you have your Kocan with the house details on it (by that I mean it details all the rooms etc...). This would be the full title deeds. Some people just have the land part and I was also told the same as Sophie that you couldn't build until you had the full title deeds.
Once I had my full title deeds I closed in one of my upstairs terraces/balcony using metal and large glass sliding doors. Made a super room. About to do the same for my back terrace and will be using Arman Metal (Alsancak) for that job.
