The interest rate rise would have helped but it would be interesting to know how much money/gold Turkey is throwing at their currency.

Considering 3-4 trillion is traded on the currency markets per day a few hundred billion is only going to keep it below 6 for so long as Mrs T said you cant buck the market.
Stop press its sneaked above 6 again.
