Saw todays display and they had a couple of new bits in routine and they had everyone cheering.

There are too many adjectives that could describe the whole display but AWESOME will do for now.

Was OK -Just a few jets flying about as far as I could see.
However I speak as someone who grew up in the shadow of a British aerospace military aircraft factory-So had that sort of thing every day.
But yes,if you are not used to seeing fast jets doing a display,I guess it must be spectacular.

We thought it was awesome too! On the whole a great day out even the traffic getting home was ok, it was busy but police seem to be coping well. Only downside took some great pics but they won't download the memory card is not being picked up by laptop and have tried on 2 so think its the card.

They had a pretty red paint job, you must admit that philoz?

Shudder to think what the carbon footprint is they left behind today after 3 displays!!!!!!! The eco warriors will probably have died in horror.

Cyprusishome- yes I admit, very nice paint job-and I wasn't being negative.

You would not believe the number of conversations(Phone and face to face) that I have had to terminate because of a low flying Tornado's , or latterly Eurofighter Typhoons flying over my business at about chimney height.

I was Impressed that 'The Turkish stars' use F16s which are far faster than our own Hawks used by the Red Arrows.

But I do think the Red Arrows take some beating in terms of grace and skill.

But then I'm British!

Paula- yes the group displays use Canadair CF-5s.
And the solo display is an F16.
I stand corrected.

Turkish Stars - formed 1993 - do not fly F16's!!! They fly supersonic NF5's
Turkish stars are a lot more skilled than Red Arrows any time. I watched Red Arrows in UK many times - nothing to dance and cheer about. The only "exciting" move they make is when 2 aircraft fly towards each other and cross very close with their bellies facing each others. Something the Stars have been doing that at least 10-15 times a year during shows if not more WITH NO ACCIDENTS YET! With all the flight cuts and a couple of shows a year the Red arrows have run into each other on more than one occassion killing the pilots. Check your facts and you will see I am right. The Stars do shows in all the Turkic countries besides Cyprus. In August 2001 they performed for over 1 million spectators in Azerbaycan. They have performed in many European countries too.

Take a good look at this picture http://www.ilgazetesi.com.tr/2012/09/12 ... k/0141447/
and tell me if you ever saw (or will see) Red Arrows fly in that formation.

Red Arrows grace and skill? If there was an air display competition between Red Arrows and Türk Yıldızları tomorrow, I would bet everything I own on Türk Yıldızları and also put a small bet on the side that Red Arrows will probably have an accident in the process!

Did they appear to be flying further out to sea than usual? Like Philoz, they were good but I'm sure they have performed more complicated routines than they did today.

Yes, they do under-perform when in North Cyprus because they do 2 shows in one day and limit their performance time to something like 20 minutes or so. One of the major factors being performing for 1-2 thousand people is not a major event for them. Many difficult moves are left out and the proximity of high mountains to the coastline forces them to carry out the display further out over the sea.

Nevertheless, watching them from the balcony of my apartment which is 300 ft above sea level on straight line 1 km from the harbour enabled me to see the full manouvers both in front of and away from the ceremony area. IT WAS SPECTACULAR!

Bigoz- you obviously know your stuff , I wasn't trying to start an argument, and I think there are bigger things In life to get wound up about
I think most people are very loyal to their national display teams, and that it a good thing I think.
Good to see though that you have a British (sort of) fighter Aircraft in your avatar,in the form of the Eurofighter.
Maybe you have this In the absence of a 'Home produced' fighter aircraft

I first learned flying in England I lived many decades there, and I also flew all over Europe from England - the reason is: I always believed and still believe that the best place to learn flying is in UK and a British licence is No.1 in World ratings.

But I stand behind everything I say about the Red Arrows and The Turkish Stars - then again, I am a Turkish Cypriot

Comparing the aircraft flown by the Turkish with the a/c flown by the Arrows is like comparing F3 cars to F1. Get a grip!!!
