Best plaice to buy fish?
I’ve already worked out that Ozankoy’s best butcher is the place to buy my meat for the barbecue... but what about fish? Can anybody recommend a decent plaice to buy fresh fish at a resonable price, east of Girne?
Sorry about the pun, couldn’t help myself

I know it's not the area you want but there is a fishmongers opposite Starling, Alsancak, I think it's called Monchus. Unfortunately I can't tell you what it's like as I don't eat fish!

In the row of shops opposite Erdeners close to Tim’s Cafe (if you know that) is a new fish shop, only just opened. Not been in, but might be worth a look.

Of course there is always Hurdeniz shops... one opposite Tempo Catalkoy in fact.
The sea bream and sea bass here is nearly all fish-farmed off the cost in Famagusta region but it is good and very standardised in size.... As long as the eyes sparkle and don't look misty and the flesh is firm to the touch you know the fish is fresh.
Hopefully I've managed to attach the spreadsheet I created to aid decision making for fish eating seasons

Hurdeniz have their own family fishermen I am informed...Jonnie wrote:The Hur Deniz in Girne near Electrokur probably has the best turnover......
Erdener has fresh fish stall next to fruit and veg... it always looks good and does not smell strongly which is a very good sign of freshness.

There is a fish shop on the corner at the Bellapais traffic lights. If it's closed I'll be gutted.

At the little harbour on the newer section of the Lapta walkway (Silver Rocks end) the fishermen have a small market where you can buy 'fresh caught' fish direct - I've no idea about operating hours though...

Don't suppose there is anything similar for the fruit and veg seasons?
