Baris plaji

On the main road through from Catalkoy there is a large sign on the right for Baris Plaji, shows a lovely beach with sun beds and the promise of on beach Mardo ice creams. Went down the road to take a look at the beach, only to be stopped at entrance to army camp and told to leave. I was not going to argue !!!!!
Does anyone know where this beach is.
Thanks

Well, I've often noticed that sign - it's just past Blanco's isn't it, and just before the left turn towards Acapulco?

looking at google maps, it seems that there is a left turn down a 'track' about 200 metres before you get to the army camp - it doesn't look very promising I have to say...

let's hope that someone else has actually been, 'cos I'd like to try it also

Keith although this beach used to be open to the public it has been closed by the military. The beach is split into 3 the far end away from the restaurant is other ranks, the middle is senior NCOs and the closes to the restaurant with small wooden cabins is for the offices. The restaurant serves very good food and drink at a very cheap price.

Thanks Mel - although telling me that "The restaurant serves very good food and drink at a very cheap price" is like rubbing salt into the wound!

That probably depends on how senior the officer is!

True, we have been there as guests of a retired Helicopter pilot it was his daughters birthday party, he had to escort us through the entrance.
a beautiful spotlessly clean beach with lots of sun beds and brollies, we were served food by soldiers in the restaurant.

Why publicly advertise a beach that the public can't use ?

Lol!!! That's is like having a house name on your gate...but it's not open to the public!
It's not advertised in the paper or on the radio.

I'm assuming the large sign is in English, perhaps if it were in Turkish then there would be no confusion at all as the locals would understand the significance!!? Reminds me of 13 years ago about a beach I could see when driving around, I asked a local how to get there as it looked so lovely and was told it was not open to public and the Army had all the best beaches. Nothing changes it would appear.

Why would it be if it is a military facility only? There a number of such facilities in the Gazimagusa/Salamis region and they are not advertised in the media either.

Did you have a Military or ex Military person with you? You are allowed in as a guest if so.

Blazer with Regt Buttons, Red Cavalry Twills, Regt Tie, highly polished Siver Studs and Trilby should get you in anywhere.

If any of you do get in remember to take a credit card with you as this is the only way to pay for food and drink. Not been this year but last year spent lots of time up there.

Apparently there are large stretches of the Turkish coastline where this type of beach is fairly common. Particularly ones for the Navy.
