Hi Trigger,
The current working hours on weekdays for all government offices are 07:30 to 14:00, with the extra session of 15:30 to 18:00 on Mondays. If you're going tomorrow, my advice is not to turn up any time close to 14:00 - these days the hard-working memurlar like to leave their offices as close to 14:00 as possible.

Does anyone know he exact location of the car registration building?

Assuming you are travelling west into Girne. Pass the Pia Bela Hotel on your left, then the State Hospital on your right and then turn immediately right. Down this windy, narrow road you will see the Hospital car park on your right. Bear left then take the next right. A short distance turn right. The taxation office is a large building on your right. Parking may be tight but is doable in the car park there. The vehicle taxation office is through the main entrance and then the left door on the ground floor.. It is usually jam packed so be prepared for a wait. If you have access to Google Maps it is the Girne Vergi Dairesi in Atom Sk, Girne.

Geli Ve Vergi Dairesi Mer Subesi on Salih Mecit Sk. Pass the State Hospital heading into Lefkosa. Pass the turning for Immigration on your left. Pass Kuzey Kibris Turkcell on your left and immediately turn left into Salih Mecit Sk. Follow this round to the right. Just before a set of crossroads, the Government office is on your right. Car parking available. Make sure you have the correct stamp value before entry. Take a ticket and ask for an English-speaking civil servant. We could not fault their service and help. Sadly, I do not know the current stamp duty or why you are going there (nor, indeed, do I need to). Iyi sanslar.

You cannot register a car in Girne anyway, only pay for MOTs & the annual tax.

I assume from another previous post you are registering a vehicle. What was the stamp cost, please as this information will be helpful for other, later, users?

Had a bit of a nightmare. Finally got seen only to find out I needed to go and get the stamp from a different building. Because of the language barrier I couldn’t work out where to go so came home empty handed.

Are there agents you can use to do it for you?

Do you know the name of the building where I buy the stamps from? From research, I think it is next to a hotel and perhaps a cafe as you have mentioned.

You can get the stamps from any post office which will avoid paying the premium the cafes charge. Why don't you ask your local car dealer or insurance office how much the stamps are you will find most local people only too willing to help you.

I was in a restaurant last night and a lady explained the process to me. So this morning i went to the post office, purchased a stamp for about 1/2 TL, no idea why I need a stamp for a log book mind, but hey ho.

I am going back this afternoon to catch the local mukhtar (not sure of spelling) who will hopefully stamp the car transfer form and then tomorrow... Lefkoşa.

All this for a car that has already broken down!

I'm a bit confused what you are actually trying to do. Register a vehicle that has been imported or change the name on a log book? If it is the former then after presenting your paperwork to the tax office you then go to the customs building (Gümruk) which is the left turn at the Kombos Mercedes garage in the main road heading towards Ercan. This is where they "stamp" the paperwork.

If this is not what you are trying to do, please feel free to ignore me!

Thanks for everybody who offered help and advice. I am now pleased to say that I am sorted and have transferred ownership of the car into my name. The car doesn’t work and is in the garage being mended mind, but at least I have made some progress. Perhaps my own fault, but a word of warning when you buy from newbies on Kibcom. As I said though, I should probably been more thorough... but I don’t really know much about cars!

The process;
Get the transfer form that is signed by the previous owner completed and stamped by your local mukhtar and buy a postage stamp (with copy of his passport)
Go to the driving authority office in Lefkosa with all documentation such as tax, log book, completed form from mukhtar and a photocopy of your passport, pay 178 TL and then you are sorted.

Hopefully the car will be fixed soon, for a realistic fee and then I will be good to go.
