Last night, a boat carrying between 150 and 160 refugees sank not far off the Karpaz coast, about 16 to 17 miles from Yeni Erenköy.

The TRNC Minister of Transport said that from 06:00 this morning, the Turkish coastguard, with help from its TRNC counterpart and private boats, has managed to rescue most of the refugees, but at present 19 are confirmed dead and 28 are still unaccounted for

The survivors have been taken to Turkey.

The figures given on those links are likely to change as more details are released.

Also the photo currently on the haberkıbrıs report is clearly from their archives and not of the refugees involved in the incident.

As well as the rescue operation, they are apparently investigating whether the boat was deliberately sunk.

Quite At least, you can see, in the first photo below and https://haberkibris.com/batan-tekneden- ... 07-19.html , that the survivors are being well looked after in Turkey.

Unfortunately, it writes in (at least in the middle of it, it does) http://www.kibrispostasi.com/c36-TURKIY ... miden-kurt that 30 people lost their lives The main purpose of that report, though, was to tell us that the Spanish NBA basketball player, Marc Gasol (2nd and 3rd photos below), was one of the volunteer rescuers involved.
