Well that sounds like good news!

Just being cautious, but could I ask who it was that advised you?

Interesting. Having only bought new plates last week would be good to find out if this is true or yet another rumour. Not that it really matters as the cost was not a lot.

Thought the purpose of the new plates was to allow easier speed camera recognition?

Who knows!

Well, as private cars have until January (something or other next year) we might as well sit and wait to see what happens. Car Rentals were supposed to have changed by July 5th
(I think it was) this year.

The secret is I believe to keep all your old licence plates, as what goes round comes around!!

It may be that the change no change and change back is to do with rental cars.... it did seem a bit mad to make them all go back to red from the new white ones when the speed cameras struggle to read the red ones...

I don't question your faith in Dennis but what exactly 'remains as is' is very unclear...So I'd hate for board members to get penalised for not taking action. On the basis of this thread.

As far as I am aware this is ok, but dependant on where you live you might want to talk to a police officer or even the MOT station before proceeding with the MOT

Our car failed its MOT end of November as we had yellow number plate at the rear. It was changed to a white one (but not the new style with blue on the left side) so now I guess we have to get it changed again (or do we????)

It wasn't a question... it was a very vague statement as nobody including TRNC Govt. have any idea what should or should not be on each end of the various classes of vehicles it would seem - each week seems to bring with it a new edict which lasts less than one week before being reversed or denied ever having been said....

Piss brewery couldn't organise a they up in a - reorganise into a well know phrase or saying...

if you didn't laugh you'd tear your hair out but you must let this stuff pass over you without a glance because it's all part of the rich tapestry that makes Cyprus different from the rest of planet Earth.

I was always taught ‘ Obey the last lawful order ‘ that way you will not go wrong.

I changed my number plates about six weeks ago at an official premises certified by the Government ( although you can go to an unofficial premises but they simply take your request to an official premises and will probably charge extra )

The cost was total 100TL (one front one rear )which at the time was about £15.50.

The reason for me going early was to avoid the inevitable rush in January and the inevitable fine and shrug of the shoulders by the Police Officer for not doing it because someone said it wasn’t going to be implemented.

I remember years ago when ‘certain people in the know’ in local bars telling people not to bother with residency ‘ you are wasting your money because there will be a settlement to the Cyprus Problem and we will be in the EU,’ That though was about 2002.

Yes, according to Trevor Hughes' Newsround today:
"You may have read, or heard recently, that plans for introducing the new number plates displaying the blue left sided flash, which are due to come into force on the 31st January next year, are to be abolished. Well, I had a meeting with the Chief Constable last week in order to ascertain if this were true. After our discussion, the new plates are coming into force on the 31st of January next year and anyone not displaying them on their vehicle will be stopped by his officers and duly fined. "

We took ours to Erdener and they charged the 100tl quoted by Mr Chinnery - so no extra cost and no driving to an official outlet required - plus they fitted the plates too.

Re official premises.
If you go to the place where people Tax their cars etc, tell them the area that you live or is convenient the staff will point you in the right direction.
Motor city motor accessory shop I think it’s called, near the waterfall roundabout that is an official premises.

Cyprus2011,
If your near the Waterfall roundabout where the Wednesday Market is, call in Motor City ? they will do them there and
then and also fit them. Takes about 10 minutes.

Cyprus2011,
Yes 100TL is the official price set by the Government. Motor City is an Official ‘dealer’ for want of a better word.
You shouldn’t have to pay any more than 100TL unless of course you ask a third party to get them for you in which case they may or may not charge extra.
In any case there is no need for a third party to go to Lefkosa to have them made.

If anybody does go down the third party route, make sure when you get the number plates they have a slightly embossed identification number in the blue part of the number plate.
This number so I am told ? will identify to the powers that be where the number plates were made. If there is no identification number on the plate they are apparently illegal.
