hi,

we are moving to TRNC in March this coming year, my wife holds a Turkish ID, she left Cyprus in 1959, we have been married since 1978, can anyone answer the following questions please:

will i be able to get a Turkish ID myself as i have been married for so long to a Turkish Cypriot
if i wish to bring in a Honda Accord 2.4i reg in 2005 that i have owned since new, and its in my wife's name will we be allowed any reduction in import duty
if i wish to start a small business, will our status help
and lastly, if we import our household goods, will it make a difference that my wife hold an ID

If anyone can assist with the answers to all or even some of the above questions, i would be truly grateful

Many thanks
Best regards
Harvey and Nadia

Hello Harvey and Nadia,

wishing you good luck on your planned move here.

You should be able to get a kimlik card,
I dont think you will get any discount re the car,
I think you should be able to start a business together especially when you get your kimlik card.
I dont believe you will get any reduction in duty when you send your container, although unless everything is brand new the duty wont be a lot of money.

regards

You say in your heading that your wife is Turkish born and then later in your post that she is Turkish Cypriot, no offence but Nadia is not a very Turkish sounding name.

If she is Turkish, you will not get Turkish Cypriot citizenship.

If she is a Turkish Cypriot or has citizenship, even then it is not a foregone conclusion.

I married a Turkish Cypriot 3 years ago, after being married 15 months I obtained citizenship, but, I know of a woman who married a Turkish Cypriot, 5 years ago, she has still not obtained citizenship.

I wish you luck.
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

I have a Kimlic card, but did that did not entitle me to a reduction in the import duty on my car, and Customs decide how much it's worth.

I did not have to pay duty on the household goods imported from England.
