According to http://www.gundemkibris.com/alkolun-etk ... 44871h.htm at about 9pm yesterday evening, Seçkin Gökçe, whilst under the influence of alcohol, drove onto the Kızılbaş roundabout in the wrong direction. (By the way, the Kızılbaş roundabout is the one in Lefkoşa with the church in the middle of it). As a result of this, Gökçe's BMW was involved in a head-on collision with Mehmet Kılıç's Mercedes (see below).
In the report there is no mention of either driver being injured. There is also no information as to whether Gökçe is a mainlander, but in light of his actions I presume he is.

Roundabouts are based on giving way to the right. In Turkey, and other countries where they drive on the wrong side of the road, they give way to the left.
I have often had drivers stop part way around to allow me onto the roundabout.

As Andrew wrote there are very few roundabouts in Turkey, for example only a handful in Istanbul, so yes Vaughan, they don't really know what to do on them ... and yes it's normal practice at least in Istanbul for the one on the roundabout to give way to the one coming on. As you imagine though, this often creates terrible congestionTRNCVaughan wrote: I have often had drivers stop part way around to allow me onto the roundabout.
