Flying from Larnaca
Has anyone who has flown with BA from Larnaca recommend these flights .
Having always flown from this side I am a little aprehensive.
Can you check in luggage as a price for no check in baggage keeps appearing ?
Any information would be appreciated.

Just go economy plus which includes checked in luggage.23kg, however i think there is better value than BA to be had ,Norwegian and Cobalt.

Yes, you can check in luggage!
The 'Hand Baggage Only' option is for 'Economy' class fares.
If you are actually looking at the BA website, you need to scroll down the page a little to 'Economy Plus' fares which usually costs about £20 more, and gives you 1 x 23kg checked baggage allowance in addition to your hand baggage, as well as a free choice of seating.
There's always Business Class, of course, but that's another £200 or so...
Oops! just spotted Davedee's post!
I agree about the alternatives, not forgetting easyjet and Blue Air, of course.

It depends which London airport you are flying into, but for Gatwick I would recommend Norwegian. Last flew BA and we were delayed for an hour because of French air traffic control and they got us on board in case an earlier slot came up and gave every passenger a free bottle of water as they boarded. I would not touch Easyjet!

Re: Flying from Larnaca
See LGC news for explanation about Minister flying from Paphos.
Have flown from Larnaca with BA for several years. Never any problems at Larnaca. BA now is just another budget airline with add ons but seating is fine with good legroom. Food is extra and basically M&S. Checked bags on economy flights cost £20 each way. Just booked BA flight in April Heathrow-Larnaca and return for £183 return including checked baggage. Pre-booked seats are £10/£14 each way.
Norwegian very good but do not do winter flights.

Flew Cobalt from Larnaca to Heathrow last month, and back again. Great service, friendly staff and punctual to the second on both flights. Goes into T3 rather than T5 so a shuttle bus to car hire.
We have had bad experiences with BA on too many occasions now to willingly use them!

Re: Flying from Larnaca
BA to Larnaca is our preferred choice because Heathrow and T5 is the most convenient for us, have given up on the tortuous Ercan route now. We have used Easyjet and Norwegian from Gatwick both fine although Easyjet seem to have introduced seats that are only just a step up from a deckchair. For BA we use the 7:15 departure out of Heathrow and the 19:35 out of Larnaca and the planes are certainly not BA's best, the (virtually non-existent) in-flight entertainment for flights of that duration is dismal. Even in business class (not our normal mode of travel just that we had enough Avios points!) there are only overhead screens, best to take your own movies on a tablet. Overall I quite like BA though and don't think they deserve much of the flak they get.

Re: Flying from Larnaca
Would actually use Cobalt again in preference to BA. The shuttle to car hire is very short. We were always dedicated BA users but have had three dreadful experiences with their 'CustomerCare' advisors after cancellations and long delays.
Certainly flying BA is, IMHO, no better than flying with the budget airlines now.

Re: Flying from Larnaca
Whatever you do, remember its not always cheaper use the same carrier (or even the same airport) on both journeys.
We've booked to go to England for a couple of weeks in November and the best bet for us was out by BA into Heathrow, and back by Easyjet from Gatwick. Its an extra GBP25 on the car hire, but we've saved much more than that on the flights, and the times mean we don't need an airport hotel for either journey either.
And yes flying from Larnaca is much better than the extra rigmarole of using Ercan/Istanbul.

Re: Flying from Larnaca
We use BA at Christmas because we want to fly from Larnaca to Aberdeen (via Heathrow). We could use other airlines to Gatwick or Heathrow then connect to another airline to Aberdeen but don't want the hassle of collecting luggage and going all the way through check in and security rather than transit. BA has its faults, but luggage is included in our ticket price and you can fill your hand luggage to 23kg if you can put it in the overhead locker unaided! You can also have a handbag in addition to hand luggage, unlike easyjet, jet 2 etc. Prices became more competitive when they started charging for food. Seats are more spacious than some of the other airlines as well.

Re: Flying from Larnaca
Again thanks for all the advice .Against my better judgement having always flown from Ercan have decided to go with BA.
I am a bit apprehensive as I quite enjoy travelling with THY and the change in Istanbul .
