The full report in the paper says police attended. Also mentions the thugs were questioned and warned at the border.tutor4u wrote:http://www.cyprustodayonline.com/cyprus ... dents/1813

Well at least that is something, one assumes that they will not be allowed back to the North to repeat their intimidation.

I seem to remember a similar incident in the same village a few years ago. All the more ridiculous, as I believe the greek inhabitants had abandoned the village before 1974, as it was damp and too far from places of work.

This is an annual visit the village was used by the Greek EOKO to fire down on the liberating army and was one of the last places the Turkish army was able to clear them from.

Re: Visiting-GC's-threaten Residents
As the majority of properties in Karma and probably Ilgaz are Leasehold, does anyone have any idea if these are deemed definitely 'safe' (ie can not/will not be returned to Greek family members of previous family owners) in the event (!) of a unification of this island? So was compensation paid and agreed between the two governments for the land and ruins to the original Greek owners so it can not be reclaimed by those original owners' families??

'Compensation paid and agreed between the two Governments'?
Are you joking?
I don't believe that there was any communication at all on this subject.
In effect, any 'exchange' was simply the surrender of Koçan/details for property in the South by an individual, to the TRNC Government for the (TRNC Government - granted) 'right to occupy and use land allocated to them in the North' to that individual...
No consultation with or compensation made to original (GC) occupiers, or the ROC Government.
As no one knows what will, or will not, be included in any possible agreement in the future (unless they have a crystal ball or a time machine ) no one can say that any property is 'definitely safe' - the sort of 'wheeling and dealing' that goes on in any negotiations, tends to trample over individual rights and expectations in pursuit of 'the greater good'...

Yes I've always thought that anyone who is confident in their pre 74 deeds or exchange deeds or whatever deeds the estate agents assure you are gold plated has more confidence than I would have.Keithcaley wrote:

Who is to say it might be decided that pre 74 deeds only hold up if they are held by a Cypriot?

Don't go spreading alarm and despondency!EnjoyingTheSun wrote:...

At least the status of such deeds can be checked and verified at the ROC's own Land Registry!
