Maybe you are getting the email addresses mixed up?
Your normal email address say ????@yahoo.com is part of your amazon sign in but the kindle email address will say something like????@kindle.com.
Not confusing them are you?

I had the same problem, what I did was to create an account with Amazon.co.uk, then register the Kindle with that site, that worked for me.

I used my laptop to get on to my Amazon account which my old kindle is registered to Amazon.co.uk I dont have wi fi so use the wifi hotspot on my phone to down load books. Followed the instructions but no luck.
