“Local crime” but both of these incidents are not locals, they are foreigners.
Perhaps you should think about re-titling your post as it is misleading?
As a Cypriot I can tell you this type of crime or any crime for that matter didn’t happen.

Re: Yet more local crime
I can empathise with the Cypriot citizen's indignation regarding 'local' crime, especially so regarding the Tatlisu arrests and an alleged crime committed in the RoC. However, the 2nd alleged offence occurred in Bahceli, and whilst this was a foreigner, the locale is local.IWelldigger wrote:“Local crime” but both of these incidents are not locals, they are foreigners.

The statement regarding Cypriots committing 'no crimes' is at best, ludicrous, as proved by the many court appearances and convictions for many serious crimes including murder, sex offences, arson, fraud et al.

I'd want her to do her time here as I'm sure the prisons here are less comfortable. Then deport her.mermaidsexist wrote:think this should be on the main page. a lot of people will know who this woman was. absolutely appalling crime, she should be hung!!
As for hanging her, why not? People like this are a waste of oxygen.

Welldigger, with the greatest respect I do think you're living in cloud cuckoo land. Many years ago I would agree with your, crime committed by TC's was negligible but sad to say, both Turkish and English speaking papers in the TRNC are full of all manner of crime these days.

To wander slightly -
"A Turkish Cypriot officer dealing with the case said she was expected to be deported to Britain on Friday."
From another item, I realise that there is "intercommunal police cooperation" between north and south, but how would the deportation take place? TRNC to Turkey to UK, or TRNC to ROC to UK?
Or are there some top secret direct flights from Ercan to UK......

It's normally a hand over at Ledra Palace in this case to officers from the National Crime Agency.jofra wrote:To wander slightly -

The woman was deported to the south on Friday afternoon with officers from the UK. She is now under arrest in the uk. Both children are now safe.

I think you need to revaluate exactly what it is that you love about TRNC. The island is full of crooks and all of the hotels casinos etc are money launderers. Greed rules this Island get used to it

Getting a bit sick of the grammar police on here. It's supposed to be a friendly helpful forum. It's starting to become Cyprus 44 and the gang of people slating each other. My title local crime, was meant local to me. I wasn't singling out anyone race or nationality, just the increase in local ( Esentepe, Bahceli, Tatlisu area) serious crime. I've never seen or heard anything go on round here for the last 12 years. And I am not being sanctimonious!!

Re: Yet more local crime
'Crime in the local area' would therefore have been a more accurate title for the OP's purposes... so let's draw a line under the semantics of that...
The British woman could have been operating from any location not just in the TRNC when the offences were committed - so it's not really a local crime... it's internet crime.
The Georgians well, as the crimes were in the ROC it's nothing to do with the TRNC other than, should they have been given permission to reside here?
Nearly 90% of the crime committed with Turkish names is not Turkish Cypriot crime - make of that what you will... but the people really struggling financially here are often very poorly paid mainlanders... any wonder then that they are driven to extremes...
I would add that. the norm for TC's is that in general though not in total, they would never dream of bringing their family's good name into disrepute on fear of being regarded as a social pariah by the TC community.

Re: Yet more local crime
" I've never seen or heard anything go on round here for the last 12 years". No crime in the Esentepe area! Did not the female owner of a local Esentepe restaurant and her boyfriend murder the husband and burn him in his car about 3/4 years ago? She went to serve time for it anyway! In Kucuk Erenkoy a Russian male murdered his wife and put her body in a local forest before fleeing the country - certainly no more than 4 years ago. Was not the owner of Tumba restaurant assaulted in his premises within the last four years? Have there been no burglaries in the Esentepe catchment area for 12 years? Rhetorica!Mike and Sue wrote:Getting a bit sick of the grammar police on here. It's supposed to be a friendly helpful forum. I think you need to re-appraise your view on local Esentepe area crime rates.

Eats shoots and leaves!
I do think that is not good manners to point out the spelling and grammatical mistakes of others (apart from Groucho, of course, upon whom I am happy to wage a relentless war ).
Most of us are Native English Speakers, and as such, are perfectly capable of disentangling a 'text' message on our 'phones, so it seems a bit pointless nitpicking others' posts when a little thought would reveal the true meaning.
However, poorly phrased statements can sometimes cause endless confusion - I've responded, in good faith to queries, and subsequently found that I was talking at cross purposes to the intent of the op , and have been accused of being 'off topic' on account of that...
I think that we need to be tolerant of others' errors, but we also need to admit to our own errors where they have led to a misunderstanding.

The only saving grace would seem to be that these are all crimes that are outside the purview of those residents who are not in some way related to the crime...

Now is this the correct use of 'whom'?Keithcaley wrote:Eats shoots and leaves!

'Whom' is an objective case pronoun, correctly used in that sentence.
You don't get any points for that one!
