Hi Paul,

If the ECHR accepts the 1878 treaty signed by Great Britain and the Ottoman Empire, then it could indeed have a “massive” impact on compensation claims made by the GCs. Just wait though for the GCs to claim that as the occupying forces they had no right to say so much of the island (ie. 2/3) belonged to the vakıfs (with the vakıfs'“rules” of not selling the land on etc) ... either that or the GCs will somehow find title deeds that predate the Ottomans, the Venetians, the Lusignans, the Crusaders ...

Somewhere somebody mentioned that the British paid the TC's £1 million in re vakifs. What was that for and is it true??
