Is there anyone who can repair an antique clock in the North? Mine has stopped going and needs some attention by someone who knows about clockwork mechanisms. Anyone know where I could take it?

Have got the same problem Carobmill with my Grandather clock. Des Roberts used to service all these wonderful machines but I think he has retired now. He did not favour any of the locals for these items. Maybe Des would come out of retirement health permitting. He is badly missed.i

Did anyone find a new clock repairer of repute? Would not consider the shop almost opposite the Dome Hotel.

If it is just a matter of cleaning (which often gets things working again), a very old-time practice is to dip/soak/rinse the mechanism in petrol (or paraffin, followed by petrol to remove the paraffin), allow to evaporate and then (somewhat) sparingly apply clock/watch oil (NOT ordinary 3 in 1!) to all moving parts.
The dip/soak/rinse process can be replaced by using paraffin/petrol on a brush if it is difficult to remove the fingers, face and other ancillary parts....
N.B. This does not work well on electric/electronic devices.....
Also - do not smoke or strike matches while doing this.....

You may try Mr. Ali (Müdürogullari), his small shop is (nearly) opposite the Main Electricity Office in Girne (this is in the road which goes from the High Street to the big Atatürk Monument at the sea side). Do not mix up with the watchmaker who is in the road just going up from the Dome Hotel.
Ali is an old watchmaker with far more than 50 years experience, also or especially with old watches of all kind. He checked, cleaned and repaired my classic watches, and knows also about the clocks your have problems with. I was always very happy with everything he did for me. His English is good. Just be sure to check beforehand that the repair costs are in accordance with the value the watches have to you etc.
For any further information you can send me a message.

Carobmill perhaps you would be kind enough to let us know the outcome. Thanks.
