Devlet Planlama Ōrgütü

Today a man came to our house, he called for us to come and said what is your name?
I looked at him and said and who are you?
He pointed at his badge and said his name was Bayram. On the badge it said DEVLET PLANLAMA ŌRGŪTŪ. He didn't speak any English, he wondered if we were Greek. Then he showed us the book, where he wanted to enter our names and a telephone number.
I get very suspicious, probably because I grew up in East Germany and if anybody asked you questions like that you made sure you knew exactly what it was about.
Has anybody else heard of this?
A survey?
My Turkish friend did not know about it.

So google translate....not the best .....gives this badge title as something to do with state planning?

On another thread it has been mentioned that it appears tax inspectors may have been checking up on properties that might possibly be rented out or used as holiday let’s.....tax would be due on the income we presume. I mention this because we had two people around our area asking questions about properties, were they occupied permanently, who lived there, were they rented etc.

Of course your man may have been doing something different.

Presume you never got to the bottom of what they wanted the information for?

Drop this into your Google Search: http://www.devplan.org/
That will take you to a web sit - in English if you hit the right button - and tell you all about it.

Good luck.

thanks waddo, was actually a bit interesting...did you know that KKTC has nearly 4k illiterate people age over 65
I think if he had just said - hello, my name is Bayram, I'm from DPO collecting information for the annual survey and showed his badge, I would have been less suspicious. but just calling hello and asking me for my name and tel no when I came out, well...…………..but then this is CYPRUS...

dippersgirl - sounds like you have identified one of the 4K straight away then - lol. Unless he was under 65 that is and then we will have to sort out new statistics. Take care out there and look out for people who can spell - they are probably con artists - lol.
