Hire Car Insurance at Metehan
Due to the collapse of Cobalt Airlines, the price of flights to Larnaca has rocketed overnight.
My wife has an illness which prevents us from taking the longer route from the UK to Ercan and thus we have had to book flights to and from Paphos.
I am well aware of the difference in the taxi fare from Paphos in contrast to Larnaca and decided to book a hire car which I have done before on this route at a much cheaper rate.
Having booked the flight, I have suddenly realised that I have made a cock up! The flight gets into Paphos at 23.25 and thus the Insurance offices at Metehan will be closed by the time we get there.
Does anyone know if there is a way in which you can pre-book insurance for a hire car to be collected at Metehan out of hours??
I appreciate that I won't know the registration number of the vehicle until I take possession of it which just adds to the problem!

Re: Hire Car Insurance at Metehan
Twaddle, As you have done this before, you may well be aware of this, but for the sake of others who may be tempted, there are only a few TRNC hire car companies which will allow their cars to be taken to the ROC, and even then it has to be by prior arrangement, and the hirer should obtain proof of approval in writing.
Those that do, may be able to arrange the insurance cover for you in advance,
I believe that the following companies do allow their cars to be driven in ROC, although the list is not guaranteed to be accurate, and may be incomplete...
Karpasha Rent a Car in Karakum (near Lemar)

ESENTEPE BRISK RENTACAR Main Office: Town Centre, Esentepe, Brisk Building

***Addendum***
Re-reading post 1, I realise that the OP is referring to a ROC hire car, travelling to TRNC, so my post may be entirely irrelevant (not for the first time! )

Re: Hire Car Insurance at Metehan
Thanks Keith but that doesn't really help as I need to hire at Paphos.
I don't even need to use the car once in the TRNC as I have my own car. I am just trying to save money on the trasfer cost as I can get a hire car for approx £100 whereas it is between £220 and £250 for a return taxi.
I was hoping that someone knows whether it is possible to get the insurance out of hours for a hire car.

Yeah, sorry about that!Twaddle wrote:Just saw your addendum!!
Well, we're keeping it at the top, anyway
I might as well keep commenting until someone who actually knows what they're talking about happens by...
I was wondering whether the car hire company could arrange the insurance for you in advance - it might be worth contacting them - they may have vehicles/staff passing through the crossing point...

Re: Hire Car Insurance at Metehan
Yeah, I have emailed them but am not sure that there will be much in the way of a response bearing in mind the sensitivity of asking a GC company to insure their car for the TRNC (even though their website says the cars can be taken into the TRNC.)
I will probably have to stump up for the taxi fare, but it is a bit steep!!

Re: Hire Car Insurance at Metehan
I have just rang a friend of mine who is a qualified taxi driver. He would do it for 100 pounds each way, not much cheaper but Paphos is a good hike. but anything saved is a bonus.

Re: Hire Car Insurance at Metehan
You might like to look at CyprusBooking.com they are quoting 750TL each way for a 7-seater...
It could be worthwhile seeing if they can consolidate the journey...

Thanks everyone, all now sorted.
I have bitten the bullet and agreed £100 each way via my usual taxi service!

Please email me. Carol@cansigorta.com. If you can get the reg and car details from the hire car company, we can issue you with insurance before you leave the UK and scan and email you the policy.
