PLANNED CUTTING (GIRNE DISTRICT)
On Friday, November 2, 2018, between 09:00 and 15:00 in the morning due to the maintenance and repair work to be carried out at Alsancak Transformer Station; East; Starting from Karaoğlanoğlu Elementary School and Karaoğlanoğlu Post Office, the electrical energy of all settlements within the area up to the west of Edremit Village, Ilgaz, Yeşiltepe, Malatya, İncesu, Alsancak and Lapta will be cut off. As the electrical energy can be given sooner or later than the specified time according to the progress of the works, we strongly advise that it should be treated as if there is electricity in the network at any time.

Well done for giving out theses warnings, Gavin. This one doesn't affect me, I hope, but keep up the good work. Thanks.

Thanks for the information, I got up early to do the washing and making sure everything is charged up. We had a power cut last Friday and it lasted for 7 hours and I was not prepared!

Thanks for the warning (although I forgot). At least we knew that it was a planned cut and what time to expect it back on.

You folks over Girne way are indeed privileged to be given advance warning of planned work/maintenance, particularly if it comes with an English translation. No such warnings over here on the East side. When power is cut around 9.00am we can guess it is planned work but when it will be resumed is anybodies guess.

I think that most of us, pay our bills by Direct Debit and we obtain a monthly email with our bill for the previous month, How simple it would be for Kibtec to mail everyone on their list of users about planned work in whichever area and save them devoting who knows how many Staff from manning the telephones to answer callers who want to know when power is likely to be restored, but that is perhaps too simple.

Tingtang, you should check on Kibtek Facebook page, where they do inform of planned power cuts everywhere. https://www.facebook.com/elektrikkurumu/

They obviously cannot inform of power cuts due to weather or other unforeseen incidents, but they do update details of such incidents on their Facebook page.

I've got into the habit of checking their FB page a few times a week, memory permitting.

They did use to update on their website, but that seems to have stopped, as the latest entries were in June.

Also on Twitter

Don't forget that if you can't see any information, and need to know when the power will be back on, you can telephone the Kibtek information centre - they are always very helpful.

Check all these sources of information regularly, and when you see an advance warning, post it on here for all of us to see, like Groucho does...
