Low power.

At the moment we have very low power to the lights and plug sockets . Lights very dull. Kettle very slow .
Anyone any idea what can cause this . Could it be KIBTEK ? Or something else.

Well, it could be Kibtek - or some other fault...

My inclination would be to unplug anything with a motor - Fridge/freezer/pool pump/vacuum cleaner etc. and to ring Kibtek to see if they know anything about it.

If they don't, and are not going to take any action, then best switch everything off at the main switch and call an electrician.

Do as Keith says.... low voltage will knacker your appliances that have motors.

Is anyone in Karsiyaka having this problem Sunday morning - We are!

Incoming voltage is about 208v. As soon as we switch on the kettle it drops to 177v - whereupon our surge protector trips the main breaker in the fuse box. Similarly if the house pump or pool pump kicks in.

Any thoughts??

Yes, switch off at the main fuse board because as Ozankoy Best Butcher mentioned, a power surge can cause a lot of damage to expensive equipment, and a surge is not uncommon when power is restored - also anything with an electric motor is liable to be damaged by the low voltage itself. I know that sounds bizarre, but the motor has to draw more current - Amps - in order to try to produce as much force as it normally would, and it's the extra current that burns 'em out...

KIbtek will probably be aware of the fault already, but best report it anyway on the automated faults line - 0392 6000 960.

The guy on the Help line - 0392 815 2223 - can usually tell you how long it will be before the fault is rectified, and I think that it's manned 24 Hrs a day.

Kibtek say it is a problem with the transformer near The Green Palace and they are sending out an engineer.
It is affecting a number of neighbouring properties.

Happened again from about 9pm Sunday until 6 am. No power apart from 1 lamp. Freezer stuff defrosted etc. Yet next door no problems ?

That's quite typical of a 'local' fault - e.g. Transformer etc.

With a 3-phase distribution system, the three separate 'legs' of the supply are spread out over the neighbourhood to equalise the load, and depending on the layout of the road/site you often find that as you go down a road, houses are connected to phase 1, phase 2, phase 3, and then repeating 1, 2, 3, in turn - so that if only one 'leg' drops out rather than the entire system (which is not uncommon) then only one house in three is affected.

Ring 'em up again, if you haven't already!

The best thing that you can do with the defrosted food is to cook it immediately and then refrigerate or freeze it as soon as possible.

Without 'trying to teach Granny to suck eggs' I would repeat the standard advice: -

"Do not simply re-freeze any defrosted food without cooking it first!"

we live in (N) cyprus, we all know these issues since ever...

I only can advice two things
- install a voltmeter somewhere in your circuit.
these can be purchased either here or somewhere else, amazon.
- and, important, install a lightning/ surge protection class 1 + 2 directly at your meter, preferably after the breaker, and lay an additionally 16mm² earth directly there.

if you want , have a surge protector class 3 (at, eg, a socket or a extension socket) to protect your equipment
(note: only class 3 will not protect equipment)
