Look carefully through the pictures in this link and you will see a couple of cars, together with speed bumps in another picture - so if not yet, soon.....

A friend drove over yesterday, said there is an insurance booth but not sure if it's up and running.

But is Ay Nick now closed to all but military/UN traffic as was threatened a year ago when they were building Derynia?

Used the Ayios Nikolaos (Black Knight) crossing 4 miles from Gazimagusa a week ago. Pretty sure it will remain open for now as it is a crossing used by many including Turkish Cypriots who are employed on the SBA.

The Ayios Nikolaos crossing will NOT be closed. However as it is on the base, and has fences then it could be closed temporarily in the event of a military emergency.

Dherynia is only two kilometres from Famagusta town in the north. The crossing point, located at Famagusta Avenue, leads straight into the centre. However, residents of the Famagusta district in the government-controlled areas have had to travel through the Vrysoules checkpoint and go all the way round, making it a 40-minute journey.

No!.
Coming from the Lefkosa/Famagusta dual carriageway go on to the end, which is a large roundabout, and take the second exit.
Go straight on passing the European Hotel and the new covered market, until you reach the Attaturk Monument roundabout.
Take the third exit ( which is the same road which goes directly to Aya Nik crossing)
Now, less than one km from the Attaturk you need to look for the first junction where you can turn either left or right. Turn left and that is the road to the crossing.
For those thinking about trying out the crossing who may not yet have visited the covered market I would suggest that you make the trip on a Thursday and combine the two. The market is huge and among the best in Europe let alone Cyprus.

Wouldn't t be nice if there was clear signage to crossings on both sides of the border? However I reckon there is more chance of me seeing pink animals going 'oink, oink' flying overhead!

Set Google maps to Kato Derenya and it will take you straight to the border. Went through the today there is insurance available both sides.
