Finally Moving to TRNC

Hi,
After 13 years of visiting, we (my wife and I) are moving to TRNC in March 2019.
We are going to rent longterm (area not fully decided as yet) hopefully a 3 bed with a pool.

Just after any general Do's and Don't's you would recommend.

My wife wants to bring our furniture with us but I would happily leave it in storage in the UK. What did you do when you moved?

I think we have a general idea of costs but if anyone could give an average monthly spend for an average lifestyle, that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Mike

You will find a number of threads on this subject if you use the ‘search’ facility
Bear in mind that most but not all villas are rented furnished with little provision for storage facilities so if you need to use all the bedrooms for sleeping you might struggle to store the landlord’s furniture to use your own.

Good luck to you, I envy you in one way, as everything will be an adventure for you. However, I'm not sure I would have the energy to go through it all over again. Enjoy yourselves, that's the main thing.

We moved with our furniture via container, glad we did better quality and cheaper.
It takes a while to work out cost of living but budget around £700 per month, eating out. Couple of nights a week.

No dos and donuts just live your life not what everyone tells you do. Still enjoying the sun in the end of December. We imported a car, obtained temp residency and driving licence, frustrating but got there in the end. Most things once you are here are cheaper apart from imported food. Healthcare very quick, saw a doc yesterday at 3.15pm for Dodgy knee, by 4.15 pm, 3 X-rays and 2 consulations and physio advjice £29. That's how the NHS should work.
ENJOY

As others have said, use the search facility on the forum and you will find a lot of information about living out here, temporary residency, driving licences, car purchase, health care etc. If you are struggling don’t be afraid to post and ask a specific question and I am sure someone will come forward and offer advice or post a link with more information. Just remember the responses are just personal preference or opinion so it’s up to you to decide which route to take.

There are no doubt frustrations to living in North Cyprus but if you just accept you cannot change the world and go with the flow it will be fine. Things will not happen as and when you want so that’s the time to chill and try another day. However; the pluses far outweigh these frustrations. The way of life is relaxed, the people friendly and on balance despite increases the cost of living is less than the U.K.

Would strongly recommend taking time to understand a little of the history of the island (You may already know it), get out and explore as there is so much to see that is of interest. Of course the weather helps with the months of May/June and Sept/Oct being our favourites.

Enjoy!

We are totally happy and contented in Cyprus Mike and enjoy the Island. The Cypriots are lovely people. I would do the same again if we were younger and had the knowledge we have now. it truly is an experience but in our humble opinion well worth it. What's not to like. I don't feel we could ever return to Blighty as it is not the country I loved and grew up in. You will make mistakes and hopefully learn from them but what a great adventure you are embarking on.
Good luck to you both.
