Could this effect UK travellers
After UK leaving the EU..
Could the following happen to UK travellers wishing to enter TRNC via south side ?
The Deputy Prime Ministry and Foreign Ministry has expressed anger over the Greek Cypriot Administration’s decision to prevent foreign nationals [from third countries] planning to holiday in the TRNC from entering through Larnaca airport in South Cyprus.
The TRNC Foreign Minister’s statement came after a group of 30 Israeli tourists intending to make their way into the TRNC were held at Larnaca International Airport on the Greek Cyprus side, questioned and subsequently deported.

No problem kiplet. As thickey says nobody has any idea what may happen but I'm saying to any guests we have coming that it may be better not to book to come through the south until things become clearer.

Re: Could this effect UK travellers
I've been saying this for two years now.
I think if the RoC can cause damage to the tourist industry in the North it will take the opportunity.
We lived in the TRNC prior to the referendum in 2004 and before the RoC was an EU member. When they opened the border they wouldn't allow UK citizens to cross until the EU told them they had to. They were very reluctant but had no choice as we were EU Citizens. After 29th March we no longer have that protection.
I've booked a flight out before the 29th March but I've booked to go back to the UK via Antalya with Pegasus/Jet2.

Is it United Nations that control the borders ?
If so who do they take their orders from ?

Are Russians allowed to cross the border? (Just wondering how their non EU status affects them)

just think how much money Larnaca airport would loose if all visitors to the North flew direct to Ercan, to ensure they had no problems once in the south, if airline company's cant fill the planes, it would be less planes landing at Larnaca, the airport will loose landing and admin fee,s, not a clever move but it could be too late by the time they work that out, we have not used Larnaca for about 7 years,
Just my opinion,

If Larnaca or Paphos airports lose money, Hermes will get an increased subsidy from the RoC Government to compensate the deficit. Hermes already receives an annual payment from the same source. The TRNC Government also has the ability to retaliate by stopping GC travellers from crossing into the TRNC for cheaper fuel, normal shopping, gambling and refusing them flight travel from Ercan etc. Happy days eh!!Sunny Jim wrote:just think how much money Larnaca airport would loose if all visitors to the North flew direct to Ercan, to ensure they had no problems once in the south, if airline company's cant fill the planes, it would be less planes landing at Larnaca, the airport will loose landing and admin fee,s, not a clever move but it could be too late by the time they work that out, we have not used Larnaca for about 7 years,

Re Russian travellers going out of TRNC via Larnaca airport - with no Residency permit, and no Visa for over 6 months now, can a Russian get over the border to Larnaca?
