Take a look at this week;s Cyprus Star and read all about the Olive Press Bowling. There is an offer for a free two week membership, and there is just one 'catch'. You have to quote (please|) CSOP1 when asking for the wonderful freebie.

Well, secretly it is so they know why you have turned up!!!

Even if you don't fancy trying this bowling for yourself, please tell your friends, and you could even go along with them and enjoy a drink or a snack in theirt excellent restaurant (and someone told me it is a good place for Sunday lunch! But you have to book.

anyway, full details in Cypruys Star, or bowl along there (pardon the pun) and have a chat - tucked away at the end of Lapta near(ish) to Hotel Sempati.

Santa is arriving early with great gifts, isn't he?

Started bowling there in September, now try to go whenever we are here, even the 'Lady in Residence' who had not tried it before enjoyed it! We both thought the food very good value although the menu is a little limited but I guess that is a consequence of everything being cooked fresh to order. The owners seem very nice people as well, very welcoming.

they are a very nice bunch of people, and deserve success. They work jolly hard and I reckon they have put a lot of money into the venture. Well worth a look. As to 'real bowling' I find that too noisy for words and I don't want to go deaf prematurely! Takea look at Olive press - i think they are worth it (and I don't get paid to say it!)

You miss the point Marions. There are 2 forms of bowls (not bowling which is the noisy 10 pin game). There is 'flat green' bowls predominantly played in the south of England and 'crown green' bowls from the north.

Thanks for that. I have learned something new, but I am still confused. Is there a REAL difference, or is it a name difference?

They are different.

Flat green bowls is played on a flat surface whereas crown green bowls is played on a convex surface - hence the names. In practice many crown greens are not truly convex and are more akin to the putting green on a golf course with various undulations that must be 'read' by the bowler.

Other major differences are that flat green is played in parallel lanes (these are not marked but understood by the participants) whereas in crown green the jack (little white target ball) can be played into any part of the green, and that in flat green each bowler plays 4 balls but in crown green only 2. The strategy involved in 4 ball play is very different from 2 ball play.

Thanks. The only thing I knew there was about the 'little white ball'. so what is Olive Press then? but whatever it is, I guess it is great that they are offering a freebie. Just wish I had time to try it and I might learn a heck of a lot more!!!! But I leave that to the others!
