Is it possible to steal electric, even with the not so new anymore meters?

I ask because my bill was 445tl this month. It is a tiny house with just me using only the essentials. Lights, fridge, tv etc....

I do not have:
Any pumps
A pool
Air conditioner
I don't even use an electric kettle.

And the water heater is used very sparingly.

I ask because a person I know who has all the above and 3 people in the house and yet their bill was only 441tl

Come on Aylin.....My bills have been extraordinarily high for a very long time now....I just thought that was how it is....obviously I am wrong.

Some investigating is in order.

How can I find out if my electric is being stolen...my meter is inside my garden not outside, so it is not easily accessible unless some brave soul wants to face off with Mr Ted...(my dog)

I had this problem a few years ago. Try switching you main breaker off in the house and check if your meter is moving. Failing that go out at night and switch of your breaker at the meter and see if any of your neighbors lights go out. An electrician told me you can have power seepage through a damaged buried cable that can heat the cable up but not trip the breaker. This ended up being my problem, the builder had joined two cables on a temporary supply.

Best of luck.

Bob4...WoW....electric seepage, that sounds mad...where does it go...apart from my bill!

I am going to do this tonight...turn it all off with an eagle on on my neighbours...

If nothing happens then I assume there is an underground problem....which makes my heart sink with the knowledge that it will cost a fortune to fix. bugger!

OK...I did the turn off the breaker thing...no change in village lights.....so I can ascertain that no one is stealing my electric....I am guessing the next test is going to be much harder.....

kibtek will come out and check your meter but do ask you to check it first by taking readings every morning and evening
so it would be best to do that first. we also realised our old freezer loved electric, when we turned things off like water pump, fridge, freezer, water chiller for 6 hours etc seeing if there was a fault with our equipment or whether they were using too much. noted when dishwasher, washing machine tumble dryer were used etc
They replaced our meter and returned our deposit paid if nothing was wrong with it too.

Are paying for builders electric by any change? I know you say its an old village property, but it could still be the case.

Hi Sophie...nope...not builders electric.

I have thought about this 39 day charge, but even if this is so, it still doesn't explain the difference between my bill and my friends bill...

Ours went from 481 to 1,021. But as well as huge increase in price which we knew about, the 30 day scam and the fact that it's been very cold, we were sort of expecting it. The next one is bound to be even higher and we just have to bite the bullet. Compare the price with the UK after dividing by 6.80tl and its not a lot at all is it?

Not paid mine yet so going to be a lovely surprise. If last bill was 400 TL 30% on that makes it 520 TL. OK we have used more heating, the other half just won't put that third coat on and rolled up cardboard around her legs. On the other hand no pool pump use to speak of so lets put 50% on. 780 TL. 39 days instead of 30. Let's stick another 25% on. 1000 TL I'm guessing.

Got away with 878 tl so less than I thought.

Had a conversation with a TC and pointed out that if they perhaps the hotels/casinos paid their electricity bills then they might not have to levy a 30% to everybody. Cut them off and I'm sure they'll pay up within the hour.
He said but if they cut them off then they can't earn the money to pay the electricity bill!
I said but they are earning and...and....yeah your right I never thought of that.

402 for us. We were there 16 days. Not too bad considering my wife had the heating on loads and doesn’t know how to operate the off switch on a light!

Do you live on a complex with a shared pool? they may have connected it to your meter. My last bill was 224 tl and I use air con and an electric fire every day.

Oh and to add insult to injury....after being in the Kibtec offices for almost 2 hours, arguing the toss and waiting waiting waiting to speak to relevant people, all I was told was that it was a correct bill, and that I should get an electrician to come and check my sockets...at a cost of a further 150tl!!!!!!!

I desperately wanted to cry right there and then, I didn't, the idea of being a weak female in a room full of staring men soon stopped the tears, but I'm not so good now.

So if there is anyone here that has the device to read electric outputs of sockets and doesn't mind being paid with a cup of tea...please getin touch, you'd be doing me an enormous favour.

Thank you.

I assume its because you use more units in one house than another. Meter readings will be the key to increased bills, DD has not said if this has increased by a lot plus has she tried switching things off.

We found when we did the tests our fridge-freezer loved electric but it was the actual meter which was faulty which Kibtek when presented with my recordings came out and checked.

I have just studied my bills from November and they have worked out I use about 7 units of electric a day, in December and over Christmas we used the oven, tumble dryer and home for longer period therefore the increase in units by 2 was not a surprise.
1/2 198 units 23 days 6.18
9/1 324 units 37 days 8.75
4/12 218 units 32 days 6.81
2/11 190 units 29 days 6.55

Having heard nothing lately about the two tier cost of electric (daytime use and nighttime use) can I ask if anyone else has heard when it is to be brought into effect? The last I heard was that it was coming in towards the end of this month!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.
