What do they actually hunt? Every time I have been on a walk in the mountains / countryside, I have seen nothing but the odd bird.

As for what they hunt they lit a fire and were eating Turkish sausage lol

Yes Helen dj it is all around me, it scares me as I am frightened to go out and take the dog's for a walk, it is so close to the house, I also fear for my cats too. Be glad when it's finished x

If hunters are closer than 200 metres from your property, call the police and report it. I am not sure you understand what being 'literally in the firing line' actually involves. It is sensible to minimise walking pets in areas where hunters are active, as do I, but they are not after cats, dogs, humans. Whatever your personal view of the activity, it is tightly controlled by law and is also part of the TC culture (sic).

I have no problem with hunting,, In my younger years, living in the countryside I used to go hunting with my husband, it's just it sounds so close, as I am surrounded by lot's of massive shrubs and trees I cannot actually see anyone and I certainly am not gonna go looking. ps I did not say I am in the firing line!!

No old trucker I did! and I am. Sitting outside is literally sitting in the firing line, and this was proven last year when my husband was actually shot. No joke either. The police who must have been called by our neighbour came twice, obviously to check their licences, then went away again. As for my poor dog he won't go out of the house until they're gone - it means my husband putting him in the car and taking him away to a safe area where he wasn't so terrified. We had shot hit our windows today - so they literally are a pain in the butt, they have no respect for people's property unfortunately and we are reduced to staying indoors, it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't start before daylight and go on all day, and for some reason this year it's not the odd one or two people it is at least 6-8 at a time, very strange. Not to worry, it finishes soon, thank goodness.

Oh Helen that is awful my husband said a bullitt hit our neighbours house last week, really frightening , as for controlled by law that's a joke, still as you say soon finished thank goodness, I am the same as you I tend to stay indoors when they are about, keep safe xxx

If shotgun pellets are hitting people or your property, take photos of the hunters and damage and call the police to report this. Show them the evidence. Also, call the hunting association to report these incidents. Nobody should be afraid in their own homes. 200 metres from an occupied property is the law!

When my husband was shot the police came (from Girne) but wouldn't go into the fields as they had no cover! To be honest, bit of a waste of time

Did you take the incident/complaint up higher within the Police chain of command if you were unhappy with the first responders?

Sorry Tom Steel but it is a waste of your time and energy taking anything up here with the Police or higher up, it will never be dealt with, I am sad to say. This is the TRNC not the UK, I love living in the TRNC and accept the way it is.

Have to beg to differ with your opinion of the TRNC Police. The two local stations close to where we live, Esentepe and Tatlisu, are very proactive and always investigate burglaries, illegal hunting, speeding, mount daily mobile patrols around our estate and are just generally helpful and supportive. I am sorry you appear to have had such negative experiences of the service provided in your circumstances. However, from reading the UK Press, it would appear the Police in the UK is not doing much in the way of investigating much of anything other than terrorism-related incidents. It all depends upon perspective I guess!

How very stupid, when the only advice people can give is to say "move" I know just how useless complaining to authorities is. Each day I pass an appalling abused dog (for 6 or 7 years at least) and all I get is "she is a solicitor". Are you seriously suggesting I move house?

Move is just an option, not a directice. If the dog is being abused, report it or ignore it. I just fail to see how complaining on an expat forum will resolve these issues. Only direct involvement of the TRNC authorities will effect change, IMO. Our (neighbours included) difficulty with the Esentepe Bashkan regarding his extortion over water charges, elicited a similar post. However, we cannot (1200) households just up sticks!

Some people like to post for info/discussions/opinions just as you would have a group conversation in a coffee shop/restaurant/bar.
