Anyone think the Oscars got it right?
Green Book has come under a lot of fire for racism anyone who has seen it think that is justified?

Personally I think it was a good film. Not the greatest I've ever seen by a long shot but in a weak year the best out of a poor crop.
As for the perceived racism in it, I missed it but then I watched it without being prepared to be offended on other's behalf.

It isn't that true? Wow there is a surprise. Hollywood has made a film and is fast and loose with the facts? There's a surprise, never seen that before.
Generally Hollywood gets a fact such as Julius Caesar invaded Britain and so the premise is Julius Caesar invades Britain and the rest is pretty much made up. Nothing new there.

For my part, though I've read a fair amount about segregation and the civil rights movement I was unaware of a green book and Don Sherry.
Green Book made me want to learn more about both. So if Green Book did nothing else, it brought Don Sherry to my attention, which can be no bad thing imo.

Wow - tough audience.

But clearly you could've cared less otherwise you wouldn't have posted.

ETS was trying to engage on a subject/film he finds interesting. If you don't - don't post. Simples (copyright - T May)

I've yet to watch the film and will probably save it for passing the time on a flight rather than going out of my way to see it. I've seen Bohemian Rhapsody and that is a very good film.

I don't fancy The Favourite & I think her (Olivia Colman) Oscar acceptance performance was better than her film acting. How does that saying go?............." The public love sincerity.....if you can fake that, you've got it made"

Do not fancy watching the Green Book or Roma, I have watched the Favourite and as much as I like Olivia Coleman I have to say the Favourite was rubbish ( two hours of my life I wont get back ) thought Bohemian Rhapsody was great and the man who played Freddie Mercury was brilliant ( sorry don't know his name ) but the best thing about the Oscars is seeing what the so called stars are wearing always good for a laugh

Couldn’t get away with the favourite. Just not my thing. Really enjoyed Bohemian rhapsody. Awesome film. Yet to see the green book.

Watch Mary Queen of Scots the other night. That was pretty good

Roma I just couldn't face watching. A black and white film about a maid in Spanish?
It is one of those films made to win an Oscar rather than entertain imo.
You know, the kind of film that has Daniel Day Lewis playing a grapefruit?
"Do you know he actually sat in a fruit bowel for 3 months preparing for the role?" Its very convincing but ultimately you are watching a bowl of fruit for two hours.

Bohemian Rhapsody was good, the timeline was all over the place and bits were made up but it was entertaining.

The Favourite I didn't watch but my better half did and thought it was rubbish. She is a big Olivia Coleman fan and the subject matter is her cup of tea too. When I say subject matter I mean period dramas rather than rampant lesbianism.

Black Panther I watched and tbh it wasn't even the best Marvel film of the year. These kind of films never get nominated so I'm guessing it's nomination was a nod to the Hollywood is too white movement.

Can You Ever Forgive Me was quite good, Richard E Grant as good as reprised his Withnail role.

Not seen a Star Is Born or at least this fourth version of the same story.

Fully expected to see a lot of films cashing in on the me too movement. Sleazy Hollywood big shot using his position to get beautiful girls.
What was called the casting coach in other words. The casting coach which pretty much decides which of two equally talented actresses works in a Burger King or gets a part in a film.

It is interesting to see lots of people now coming out and jumping on the anti- Weinstein bandwagon but giving standing ovations to Polanski. I guess Polanski can still boost their careers whereas Wenstein can’t anymore.

The Hollywood is too white backlash got us such classics as Fences a couple of years ago. Fences was pretty much Denzil Washington talking for two hours in his back yard. Another great performance by Denzil but as entertaining as watching someone talking for two hours in their backyard.

From what I've seen, Green Book was deservedly the best film. Not great but worth watching and by far the best of an average lot.
