Rental Tax

Hi can anyone tell me what the current rental tax is please and if you can pay in advance.

We always used to pay 10% and in advance, however when we last went to pay (last year) we were informed you can only pay in arrears and it was 13%.

We are coming out in a couple of weeks and ideally would like to pay our tax on holiday rentals in advance.

Hope someone can advise. Thanks.

I thought it was 15 % for new foreign currency contracts now? I asked to pay 1 month in advance last month in girne and they said no. This was for my wife . In famagusta where my tax is they let me pay 1 month in advance last week .

There has been a discount periodfor tl contracts from september fir 6 months. 2 % for existing tl contracts and 1 % for new contracts . The discount period has now expired and i think they told me for tl contracts are now 10 % .

Go figure....

When did you register the contract ? If it was before september 2018 it will be 13 % since then i was told it was 15 % for new contracts from september ? All my contracts are in tl now so i cant confirm the foreign tax . Clearly they are trying to disuade from non tl contracts .

http://www.dkdeniz.com/haberler-2018-9- ... urulu.html

Its confirmed in writing here but you have to translate . Section 5 states new contracts from september for foreign currency will be 15 % . This law applies for only 6 minths. Ihavent got a clue what it is from march onwards

Why do they make it so difficult, why can we not just fill in a form and pay.
Every year I find month after month explaining its holiday lets therefore no stamped contract here

I dread next month

This is what I do and have had no issues with holiday lets since it was originally set up with an example "contract" about 7 years ago. I just fill in the form for the month in which there has been a let. They have never asked to see a contract.

Any new contracts are 15% GBP or 1.8% TL. Paying in advance is allowed but only for the year, so untill last day of December.

Rental tax charges are due to change again shortly to 10% for both lira and sterling contracts. Wouldnt advise paying in advance on a sterling contract while the rate is at 15% as you wont get any money back when the tax rate drops.

It doesnt matter where the property is you can register in the girne tax office if thats your nearest one . You need to take your kocan or contract and rental contract which you first need to get stamped plus a copy of your id . In fact you need copies of everything . There is a photo copier upstairs in the canteen .

I used to pay a few months in advance but from the time the rate changed was only allowed to pay tax due on the payment date. I last tried to pay advance tax last month and was not allowed. A nuisance when the tax is a small sum.

The rental tax dept is on the right of the central desks past the vehicle tax ones. You have to obtain a file no from them first & they will retain a copy of the agreement. You then go to the first 2 desks on the left as you walk in the door & pay 0.5% of the total agreement income i.e. contract £300 per month for 12 months = £3600 x 0.5% = £18
