Step ladder stolen Tatlisu area it has a broken safety catch and stiff platform, not worth much but the thought of person or persons trespassing on private property concerns me.

Last year we had a pair of jeans stolen from the washing line. We think we know who it was but worrying all the same. We now make sure no washing is left outside when we go out. Times are changing!

Someone stole the Turkish eye we had above our front door, also worthless !

Someone stole my hose pipe and reel from our garden in Karsiyaka.
Reported it to Lapta police and showed them a photo of it in the garden - they did come to the house and said they would step up their routine drive pasts but we never heard back from them.

Meanwhile, in London last week 9 people were stabbed in one evening. Enjoy your safety while you can!

I commiserate but not with the London gang members. During my time here I've had a wheelbarrow, fencing materiel and a pile of logs all stolen and they could not have been seen from the road. Oh, and we've been burgled twice. This is in Lapta. But there is no crime in Cyprus!

sadly times change, but not once in 13 years here have I felt concerned for my personal safety unlike the UK that I left in 2005

My step ladder got nicked but I wasn't too bothered.....I always preferred my real ladder.

The reason that I ask is that there was a spate of thefts from garages / sheds in that area just under three and a half years ago, and I never heard any reports of anyone being caught...

There was some discussion on the forum at the time, see here - and there should be another thread which mentioned 2 'early teenagers' (although they would obviously be older now,) who seemed to have a habit of hanging around looking for anything that wasn't 'nailed down'. They used to be accompanied by their grandmother, who is reportedly no longer with us.

I don't think that any of the thefts at the time involved Breaking and Entering as such - apart from perhaps the odd shed door that wasn't very well secured, but please make sure that all of your doors and windows, including those on Garages and Sheds are properly locked!

Anyway, be vigilant, and if you do spot anyone loitering, ring the Police!

Yes I remember those and it was around the time my logs and fencing disapeared but it also coincided with some work being done in our abscence, not that I'm inferring that it could have had anything to do with that, I'm sure it was just a coincidence.
The first time we were burgled was by old Ibo who assisted with the pool cleaning for the infamous CaSa "construction". He and his female accomplice entered about a dozen properties, mostly in the Karsiyaka area before they were caught. He served six years in Lefkosia gaol.
The second time was by an organised gang who were prolific and targeted holiday homes that were newly occupied and their crimes ranged all along the coast. They were responsible for somewhere in the region of sixty four burglaries, maybe more. All this is going back a long time now and I do believe that most of the crime is low level and opportunistic. I have to say that I did find Lapta Police most helpful and they did recover some minor items from the first burglary, in fact I made some long lasting friends among them.
ttoli, I fear for my personal safety almost on a daily basis here in the TRNC. Every time I go out in the car!

The slang term used by the UK police for stealing underware from clothes line was SNOW DROPPING. I Never figured why. Loved the joke about the clothes pegs. The stabbings in major cities in Blighty are dreadful and a reflection on law and order and the police, Stop and search must be resumed and the police must take control of the streets. The PC bridgade have ruined us enough. Just my humble opinion.
