Can anyone help me please. What is the cheapest way to ring a landline in the UK ?

You need to put credit on your account in order to phone landlines or mobiles not using Skype

If you want to ring mobiles or landlines then use paid for Skype it’s very cheap. Top up your account online and use it to ring any number.
Elderly parent doesn’t understand computers etc but she will pick up the phone so we find it simplest for her.
Type paid for Skype into your browser and see the charges etc.
Landlines in uk from here cost 0.02 pence per minute and mobiles 0.09 pence per minute there is a one of connection charge per call of 4.5 pence

Agree with others that Skype or one of the other VOIP providers are the cheapest way to phone from here to a UK landline.

You can also set up a UK Skype tel no, so that people in the UK can call you. It works out cheaper if you add in an annual subscription. Did this years ago, before all the current apps were about, but it was mainly done so that our elderly parents had a UK number to call, so was much cheaper for them than calling our TRNC mobiles. Still have it, although not used as much nowadays, but really handy to still have a UK tel number. Just got latest annual bill a few days ago and it was around £40. (My subscription doesn't include mobile phones, just landlines).

After reading KC's post about prices, thought I better clarify annual subscription. I used to do unlimited landline subscription to UK, but then with using other means of communication, changed to 250 mins per month, thus reducing my annual bill.

I have just checked my latest annual bill properly (which was at the beginning of April 2019) and it works out at £32.64 not around £40 as I originally stated. This is for Uk phone number + annual subscription of 250 mins per month. I have no idea what unlimited to landlines costs these days, or calls to mobiles, on a subscription basis.

Using a mobile phone then what’s app is great. Calling a landline then Skype is probably the best method.

Depending on your situation a 'non internet' option may be to just get the right package with your mobile phone operator here or in UK (if you are a swallow).

My partners Telsim (vodaphone) Red pay monthly package for example comes with bundled minutes and these include calls to the UK both landlines or mobile. So within the limit of thier bundled minutes calls to the UK (not using the internet at all) are 'free'.

One possibility is to see if you are in range of a Cytavoda or MTN signal from the south of Cyprus. If you are then you can take advantage of much cheaper roaming rates. I have a dual sim 'phone with a CytaVoda card and one form Turkcell. In most of Nicosia and Famagusta you can get both services, as you can along much of the east coast.
Not sure how this works in the north coast area, but worth driving up a mountain to check it out.
