Insurance claims

After the horrendous rains since Before Christmas, I was wondering if anyone else has had an insurance claim rejected. We made a claim for water damage but we were told it was because of poor building and rejected. I think this is a convenient scapegoat for the insurance companies! What has been the experience of others?

You may well be correct, who is your Insurance Company/Broker?

We have house insurance via ESTA. The heavy rain/storms caused a large section of our garden perimeter wall to collapse. Claim made. Rejected because of poor design/no foundation. Appealed, ESTA sent an investigator who found foundations for the wall. Insurance company approved the claim and ESTA Construction repaired the wall.

Same problem with Limassol Bank house and contents insurance two years ago. No walls down, but damage to swimming pool pump and serious damaged to basement floors and doors. The agent was Cyprus Pines Rent a Car they gave no support whatsoever.
The claim was for £2.2k which was agreed Limassol bank that they would pay. I went to pick up cheque all I was given was a cheque for £670 which was made out 6 months earlier. Very interesting the Cyprus Pines family house was flooded and awarded £20k for repairs which were carried out in full.

Over the years I've heard endless stories as above. Mostly the fault of "badly built" property. I also know of one or two people who really did fight their corner and won, but it was exhausting. What really makes me angry is they are quick enough to take your money, knowing full well that there is, or perhaps more accurately was, back in the days of all the cowboys, loads of badly built houses and walls. Back in 2009, we lost a huge part of our garden which collapsed into the ravine. We were informed that there had been a large amount of cash available donated for repairs to ravine type houses after storms. Meeting arranged with Government authorities only to be told that we should have applied prior to storms occurring on an if and when basis. Consequently we had to fund everything ourselves. It was a great deal of money in any ones eyes.

Our house was very well built. All our boundary walls were reinforced and have stood up very well for 14 years.

As you are well aware there is a rule for the locals being a Brit you stand no chance.

In my book, Cyprus Pines Car Rental (the agent) gave no support whatsoever regarding our claim. We paid £360 per year for 10 years This was our first claim.

As I said the Cyprus Pines house was flooded at the same time. The damage encountered was fully repaired and the property enhanced with new kitchen etc. Not a very good experience.

Where is the Cyprus Pines Car Rental agent located, please? Other forum users can then avoid the site like the proverbial plague.

The guy I was dealing with ( moderated )
They work out of the YCL fashion shop in Kyrenia. They have an office/house in Karoglanogu. I have never hired a car from them but I note all their hired cars are insured through Limassol Bank insurance. The advertisement for house insurance on their website is very misleading.

We have just had the damages officer from Turk Sigorta call to inspect our storm damage. He told us that because the damage was to the outer wal it was covered by the policy as the policy only covered inside the building, despite us having storm cover.

Do you mean that the damage to the outer wall wasn't covered by the policy?
