Not worth the risk, they say you need 6 months you could be lucky and get away with it but imagine if they put you on the next flight back

My brother came last November for a stay of 1 month on a UK passport via Larnaca, he only had 6 weeks on his passport... I checked beforehand and ROC have no restrictions if you are travelling on EU passport and Trnc require 6 months only if you are applying for a visa, https://mfa.gov.ct.tr/consular-info/visa-regulations/

If you are worried contact TRNC consulate in London 00-44-207-631-1920, they will be able to give you a definitive answer.

I always thought it was OK when leaving a country, its trying to get back when problems start. Have never taken the risk to be honest.

A UK passport holder at Bristol Airport was prevented from travelling to Turkey recently because she didn't have the required 6 months on her passport. Carriers will prevent you from boarding if you don't meet the entry requirements for your destination because, I believe, they have to bear the cost of bringing the passenger back when they are refused entry.
Apparently, airlines are also asking to see paper copies of the Turkish E-visa - if it can't be produced they may not let you travel.

Am I missing something? OK with 5 months to expiry date as long as you leave TRNC before it expires. But what does the UK say when you try to get back in.

Surely if you're a UK citizen with a UK passport returning to your own country (the UK), you cannot be refused even on the last day of validity? (Unless you're proscribed for anti-terrorism reasons and the like....)
To take to ludicrous extremes of lunacy, if in the UK and your passport expires - will you be deported back to tha last foreign country that you came from?

Your passport is an identity document even expired you would still be a UK national, many EU nationals travel to and from the UK without a passport.

So an Airline will let you travel with an out of date passport provided you were heading to the UK. You learn something new every day. I needn't have panicked earlier this year then.

The problem was my son booked a holiday in Northern Cyprus to come and see us for a week. After he booked it he realised he'd only got 5 months on his passport that is ok for the EU countries. but for Northern Cyprus a 6-month passport is required Northern Cyprus .

from the Post Office *However, if you’re travelling to the north of Cyprus, your passport should have at least six months validity.

That depends on the airlines rules, but UK border agency wouldn't stop you entering the UK if they were happy you were the person entitled to the UK passport, they are renewed every 10 years to update the photo like a driver's licence.
