Clock Tower Kyrenia
Wondered if anyone has noticed we have a lovely new clock tower being built in Kyrenia.
We thought tonight when we heard bells it was from St George’s church in Turk Mahallesi ..
But no it was the new clock tower and wasn’t sure what was the loudest the mosque or the Clock... It was a competition.
The clock is chiming every 15 minutes ... !

Heard it today at 12.45 - a nice sound but glad I don't live near it!

Chimes every 15 mins. Hope it doesn't disturb residents in the area.
We had a Westminster chimes clock that did that and it was awful when you couldn't sleep and had to listen to the bells. It was a case of, " The bells, the bells, they are driving me crazy."

Don't worry it won't last long if it upsets some of the locals a bit like the good idea of the pedestrianised high street.

They are testing it at the moment and will probably chime once on the hour between 8.00 and 12.00 PM once up and running properly....

It think it looks terrific, but why oh why is it tucked away like it is. It deserves a much more prominent position.

It’s owned by the colony hotel and Aracud fine art university which is in the next street.
I’ve told there are going to be two bronze statues on the top as well.
Have to say the Akin group which owns the hotel, the house and the university have made the area look lovely, and have also restored some of the beautiful building in the area.

kiwikid, thanks for the explanation. I couldn't agree more with your remarks and Erbil Arkin. He is a real visionary. He does what so many of these greedy hotel chains DON'T DO. He improves what the UK would consider to be "brown field" inner city sites . He is one of only 8-10 big business people here in the TRNC that I have any faith in whatsoever.
