Hi
we get a lot of soot on the bottom of our pans when using the calor gas.
never noticed this before when we used to visit on holiday (mind you i think we used dishwasher every time then )
We have a new bottle and it is still the same
Any solutions to this as it is making a real mess of our dish clothes and tea towels

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

Have you tried changing the lid thing that goes on top of the bottle (don`t know its name sorry, it regulates the flow of gas out of the tank, the tube attaches to it at one end and the hob at the other )?

Also, has anyone spilled something over the hob that`s got into the burners maybe, that could be affecting the gas flow?

Soot and yellow flames happen when the air/gas ratio isn`t right, we haven`t had soot but have had yellow flames on the hob and it was the lid thing described above

Calor gas and natural gas hob burners are different. This happens when a natural gas burner is used with calor gas. All gas gobs here are for calor gas, maybe this hob was brought from the Uk and set up for natural gas?

As nginea has said this happens if you have brought the hob from the UK. Our friends brought a lovely Smeg hob from the UK but the jets are larger than the ones needed for calor gas and consequently every time it is used the pans get covered in soot. It may be possible to buy new jets to resolve this.

Have just bought a Zanussi hob in the UK which was supplied with a different set of jets to use if you were using bottled gas.

sounds like you need to take off the burners and clean them something is blocking the airflow and its causing the soot

I notice no one has mentioned the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning yet.

I am fairly sure it’s the gas nozzles on your hob burners mine came with two sets, one set for each type of gas !
