VAT on sales of Commercial vehicles ( Pick up Trucks)
Told today by a notary that VAT is payable on a pick up truck every time that vehicle changes hands. Is this true?

Thank You. Any idea what’s the thinking behind it apart from another money making operation?

Re: VAT on sales of Commercial vehicles ( Pick up Trucks)
if you buy a car for private issues from a car dealer, you may get a receipt.. or not. hmm.
sure is, the VAT was payed for the import price. if you buy for, say 7500, and dont ask for a receipt... then the dealer payed, say, for 5000 VAT (say, 16% = 800) .. and when you left the shop, he issues a receipt for 6000 = 200 profit only.
anyway..
sure is, a commercial vehicle is property of a company, or?
if this company sells it, it must be "written out of the books", = an invoice must be issued and then VAT must be added or VAT is included.
so, demand an invoice (to the name of your company) and you do not need to pay the VAT.
if you buy a car for your company from "private" (how an commercial car can be "private".. ok, another subject...) or from a "company" which does not issue an invoice to you.... and you want to "put it into the books" as "company expenses", YOU have to pay the VAT.
when you sell, also VAT applies.
so, basically the say from the noter "that VAT is payable on a pick up truck every time that vehicle changes hands" is not 100% correct.

I assume the noter meant commercial vehicles, some trucks are private, how do you know?
Only holders of a full kimlik card or business can offically own a commercial vehicle
they have MOT's every year their tax is different to a private own truck/pickup

I bought a commercial vehicle for private use - from a dealer - did not pay vat - still have to MOT every year - the dealer made enquires at the car tax office at the time as I dont have Kimlik or Company, they said it can be done/was done on a work permit too.

interesting as i couldn't do it with a beyaz kimlik , it really is a case of who you see on the day , maybe the dealer knew the right person.IPMAN wrote:I bought a commercial vehicle for private use - from a dealer - did not pay vat - still have to MOT every year - the dealer made enquires at the car tax office at the time as I dont have Kimlik or Company, they said it can be done/was done on a work permit too.
but then i have found who recognises this piece of plastic as a bit of a joke, I have to leave and come in the country using it but only certain banks will use it as ID, the police say no, the hospital say yes

So I want to buy this Pick Up Ford Ranger, £6000, 14 years old. Private sale so I realise there will be VAT to pay but was knocked back when told someone at the Lefkosa Tax Office valued the car at 70000 TL (10k£) for VAT purposes!
Mad or what!
