Re: Electric bill
No not yet, but we're waiting with baited breath. I've gone out of the way to try and do anything involving high consumption and kept to off peak.

Thanks for that. I am in Karsyaka but it seems nobody this end has got theirs yet, surely this will be a cash flow problem?

Re: Electric bill
Just got ours, only a little bit higher than last month so Sally's usage of off-peak to do washing and dishwasher must be paying off. I save money on hot drinks too. What I do is boil a big pot of water at 6am then just take from it all day to make tea, coffee etc. I find this saves money too.
Re: Electric bill
Just got ours this morning. Despite attempting to use electricity economically as possible, i.e. same as frontalman, with washing machine, dishwasher etc at night on cheapest rate (I can't say 'cheap rate' there isn't one) we have had our largest ever bill. Hate to say it, if life here becomes too expensive then people will start to leave in ever increasing numbers or at the least will cut down on other spending with the knock on effect to the local economy.

Mine came today 163tl 5 tl less than last month. I dont have a dishwasher and have only used aircon twice last month I am more than happy with this amount.

Mark - ours was only 293TL and you know the size of our house compared to yours.
Our pool pump for a 12m x 5m is on only one hour per day, at night.

Ours came in today and was 56% less than last time. We don't use the aircon at all (only fans with doors wide open for the evening breezes) I also take the off peak business very seriously and study the sheet on the wall all the time to plan the day. Wish I could persuade pool man that one hour every 24 hours was sufficient for the pool, but he went apoplectic when I suggested it.

My water is always 100% perfect - it is very easy to maintain the water crystal clear and completely algea free if you use chlorine granules, CTX-60 and Jollygell.
Remember that the pool filter system is only a mechanical filter for solid particles, not a biological filter.

Re: Electric bill
Thanks for the info Paul. I know your pool is very clean and you appear to have got the right balance of additives. We like the birdies to be able to have their bathie-wathies in the shallows of the overflow so have ours on several times to keep the level up. Our pool is clear and algae free with chlorine and algaecide though I probably use a lot more than you do.

Re: Electric bill
29TL is the standing charge + Street lighting + KDV so no electricity has been used.

Re: Electric bill
I pay a friend's bill as they only visit occasionally. Last month's bill when they were here for nearly 3 weeks was 151 units @ 187TL. This month with the house empty was apparently 128 units @ 169TL including 22.42TL discount for low useage. I thought the discount applied if you used under 300 units? The pool was running for the same amount of time both months. Confused.com!

Re: Electric bill
How often and for how long should I have the pool pump filter working on a 10 x 5 overflow pool? Pool man says 1 hour a day is fine in winter (still on overflow) whilst 3 x 1 hour a day in summer. Can those hours be adjusted to avoid the most expensive electric times?

If that's all you think you need to do I most DEFINITELY would not want to swim in your pool.paul90 wrote:My water is always 100% perfect - it is very easy to maintain the water crystal clear and completely algea free if you use chlorine granules, CTX-60 and Jollygell.

By far It isn't all I do but I don't want you to hijack a thread on Electric Bills and go off on a tangent on pool maintenance.
If you want to start one on Pool Maintenance then do so.

Bulsnil, how about giving us some feedback as to what you think the minimum pool health regime should be. Paul's wife spends hours and hours in the pool and she is in perfect health as far as I can see. Are you a professional pool cleaner? What qualifies you to make the kind of comments you have on this thread?

True to form it doesn't take long for the bully boys on here to have a go at someone who just happens to express an opinion. But yes I am qualified to clean pools and I will not give info as I charge for that.

Re: Electric bill
Original subject of this thread was electricity; pools were only referred to because of electricity usage - therefore your contribution was irrelevant and definitely impolite.
As I said, I do not have a pool - but if I did, I would not want you to swim in it......

Did you manage to cure the problem with your pool own that you were asking for free advice on how to solve on this forum? Was that before or after you gained your Pool Cleaning Qualification?
What qualification was that exactly?

Bulsnil, you made a sarcastic comment twice after Paul90's posts, and I just asked you to clarify why you were doing that. If you think that is bullying you must be very thin-skinned.

Art, without pre-judging your aircon use, and not wishing to 'teach Granny how to suck eggs' , could I suggest a temperature setting of 28 degrees Celcius - or perhaps 27 degrees if you must...Art wrote:Omg....857 lira...having an air con inquest with my wife who no doubt will blame the dogs for wanting to stay cool.

Also, I have found that provided you cool the room down a little by using the aircon 'as normal', then it is really economical to change to the 'dehumidify' mode (usually shown as a water droplet on the LCD display) which just tries to drag moisture out of the atmosphere in the room, and generally makes you feel a bit better.
Of course, one of the new 'Inverter' type A/Cs will be cheaper to run for those of us who live here - not such a saving for holidaymakers and swallows if you take the purchase price into account though.
A ceiling or other type of fan can help a lot, and reduce the need for aircon use, it cools the skin by promoting moisture loss and cools you as a function of 'Latent Heat of Evaporation' - apparently
Keep your cool!

Thanks for the tip about changing to dehumidifier mode KC, will give it a try to see if it helps, and with the Kibtek bill if it does work.

Re: Electric bill
We use a large fan that sits on the floor and reminds me of a jet engine. The dogs lay in front of it when it is really hot and it keeps the kitchen/diner and lounge cool. I must admit I did put the aircon on for a couple of hours yesterday as it was so hot but even then the fan blows the cooler air around. I assume the fan uses a lot less leccy than the aircon.
