Refugees at Dhekelia Base Camp Will Come to UK

It has just been announced on Channel 4 news that the Refugees that have been living on Dhekelia Base Camp Cyprus for nearly 20 years, have been given permission by the UK Government to come to UK, where they will be given the right to remain and future Citizenship. Cannot find any links at the moment, Government will not answer any questions and Immigration rules have been changed for this one unique situation.

The law firm that brought this case and won it ( on legal aid ) is Leigh Day the same firm that was prosecuted and the partner struck off for fraud and lying in court regarding the prosecution of soldiers in Iraq, Afganistan ,Kenya and Northern Ireland.

Because they do not seem to be an ethical or honest firm and make their living from taking the government to court on legal aid. Ambulance chasers in my opinion even if it's not yours. Which is why I posted it is there a problem ??

I'd go along with that.

Legal aid is a fantastic concept which is being totally corrupted by firms like this. I wouldn't want to get rid of it but I think if these firms didn't get their costs covered unless they won a case it might put a brake on them.

IMO one bad apple doesn’t make the whole of the law firm bad. A group of Refugees left stranded for almost 20 years in poor conditions and almost ignored, I am happy with whom ever gets them out if they have abided by the law on this occasion, which has been described as a unique case.

The Refugees are on SBA of Dhekelia a British Overseas Territory with no means to defend themselves. If they qualified for Legal Aid, helped by Leigh Day, then that is the system until the UK Government changes otherwise.

The Uk Government had it’s chance to change the system when Asil Nadir received his Legal Aid.

While it's good for the refugees fair enough as for poor accommodation that's a joke service married quarters are for service families sadly below the standard expected by refugees. Then what do you expect as asker iceman I was in long Kesh for 10 months on a camp bed a cold water tank to shower under . They put prisoners in it after putting central heating,shower rooms tv and cafes the prisoners claim for dusty dared accommodation. You say one bad apple in the law firm not true the lies, fraud and ambulance chasing was the policy endemic in the firm as a whole. Why am I angry when I see my fellow soldiers being charged with murder after these firms contact terrorists and act for them against the armed forces you may think it's ok ,I don't. Dennis Hutchings may ring a bell for you

The refugees have been released and have arrived in UK. Channel 4 news is revealing the story this evening.

Yep, it's actually slightly more than 20 years - it was October 1998 when they arrived.
