Apparently at 02:15 tonight, F16 fighter planes will fly over the dawn vigil, held on the beach where the Turkish military first came ashore in 1974.

That must have been after they hit the old Airport and the communications in Nicosia . I remember it as if it were yesterday being in the UN Camp at Nicosia Airport, woke me up it did especially the strafing noise over Nicosia.

45 years ago, not too much as I remember obviously after the strikes a lot more appeared from all over the place. I was in 644 Signal Squadron UN, based at the old Airport. We had Canadians, Swedes, Finns, Danes on the camp with us.

I read on one of the TRNC news sites earlier today, that it was any time from 5.55pm until 6.40pm - unfortunately though, I can't now find the report to give you the link.

I also remember reading there will be a fly-by for the Lefkoşa ceremony some time betwen 11:00 and 11:30 (ie. in the morning) ... and then a fly-by for a ceremony in Güzelyurt between 11:30 and 12:00.

One presumes that the Stars themselves gave the possible start-time this year as 5.55, because there were complaints from some people in previous years that they were still inside the house or wherever when the Stars first flew over. I was merely forwarding the times giving in the TRNC press. Hey ho. Enjoy the day!
