It would great if some of the restaurants here actually used some of the varied vegetables here, even the supermarkets stock frozen pea's, french beans etc. Instead what do you get Carrots, Courgettes, Cauliflower, over and over again, OK RANT OVER !!

I did mention this in a well-known restaurant, and the owner said that they do this because...

"That's what the English LIKE" !!!

All of the local-style items on the menu came with a full complement of appropriate local vegetables, but 'British Food' was limited to the aforementioned...

The only one I know uses fresh veg all the t,e is the grapevine.

I have had the same explanation as KC i.e. English Like it. I don't think its a case of fresh/frozen vegetable, its the fact that its the same 4 or 5. Doesn't matter where you eat, cafe or 5* its still the same veg. Only time you get a choice is if you go to the Merit (or similar) buffet lunches. Then of course you are spoiled for choice.

My worst nightmare here is frozen veg..... ok we are limited with the veg available, but whatever is in season is fine and far healthier than the stuff from the freezer. Restaurants we use offer cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, courgettes, whatever is in season and fresh. In fact I refuse to go anywhere that serves frozen, so the kitchen in catalkoy was off my list after one visit..l. Although have to say steak was nice.... not as good as Erols, ozankoy though.

Same here, any restaurant serving dishes made with frozen veg, and ....... frozen chips ( which is the craziest thing to do in Cyprus ) are off my list. Rather eat at home.

*Far* healthier is debatable. Indeed most of us prefer fresh, but often where, say, both parents work, it is more practical to buy frozen vegetables ... and are they really doing a disservice to themselves and their family - Maybe they are, but have a read of the following:

Could be it is too labour intensified to buy and prepare loads of fresh veg - just a sign of the times I think and it has spread all over the world.

Ian Crumpy, well,, maybe its a personal thing then, but I really dislike soggy frozen veg...… peas are about the only thing I can stomach. And frozen spinach...…. my goodness, don't even go there...…. but, back to the original post, I do think it is a pity that some restaurants are not a bit more adventurous with their veg offerings when there are different types available. Just been shopping, there are various beans, okra, aubergines, broccoli, cabbage, sweet corn..... lots of variety at the moment.

How about julienne a carrots cooked in orange juice with Honey drizzled over OR a drizzle of balsamic vinegar , you know it does not take much to enhance a meal, you just have to care about what you cook. Its what the English want, yeah maybe 30 years ago, time moves on and so do i to other restaurants.

Change venue? Really, we only have ourselves to blame - don't we?

You won't find frozen veg at Tropicana, Grease Monkey or Sushico. please supply names of other places that don't use frozen veg.

BTW Tropicana serve the best french fries in Cyprus - a guilty pleasure - well once a fortnight is not too naughty... is it?

And Mike, I love griddled fresh courgettes, cauliflower and carrots but would never eat them from frozen... who does that?

Well Gavin, I never championed the use of frozen veg , only the greater use of fresh veg as there is always a rich and varied supply, only exception being Peas and or French Beans. As for changing venue, an example for you, Pam and I went out on Valentines eve for dinner, Starter Great!!, Main course arrived Salmon on a bed of herb mash, sounds good, when I asked where was the additional veg I was told the mash was it.

Guess what voted with our feet never to return, moral is "if you want to stay in business as a restaurant, give the customer what they want at a competitive price" If you don't believe me ask Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsey both of which have had issues.
