Moving posts
Just seen a post about interest rates has been moved to the finance section and who can argue with that! Makes a mickery of it though when there is a gardener advertisng a few post before it who regullarly clogs up the board and doesnt get moved.....
One rule for one and one rule for others (advertisers)......

Re: Moving posts
On the other hand there are two posts that have NOT been moved to the Disabled Section and one that has been moved by a poster (as opposed to theOP or a moderator)

Re: Moving posts
We have been here many times.
Advertisers do have a preference - because they pay and support the forum. If there was no money incoming there would be no forum.
Posts are moved as and when moderators are on the forum and have the time. Sometimes the time available only allows mods to move a few posts and at other times we will move many more. Sometimes we may just miss a post and it will not get moved.
We try and do our best.

Presume you meant to say “if there were no posters there would be no advertisers and no forum” which is of course true.Ragged Robin wrote:If there were posters there would be no advertisers and no forum. Horses and carts!
However; there are many Kibkom members and as the forum has grown so has the cost to set up, run and maintain the forum. Advertising pays for the running of the forum along with occasional member donations made from sales they may make. Without this revenue the forum would not be able to continue. Therefore advertisers rightly have an influence.
However; this is topic is about moving posts to the correct categories which moderators try to do when they are on the forum and have the time. Hence some posts are moved quickly, others after a few days and some just get missed altogether.

Thread gets moved, member complains and states where it has been moved to. What is the problem?

Seems strange to me that some members can take the effort and time to complain yet can't take the effort and time to use the report function to assist the voluntary moderators.

Re: Moving posts
IF that i getting at me, if you read the posts you will see that I have in fact transferred several, but I am not a moderator , do not have their facilities and not a volunteer and with arthtitis and particularly sticky fingers in this weather is difficullt for me. I have pointed out a couple but my requests for them to be moved were ignored. I thought pressing"Report" was a bit ott but will certainly do so in future.

Re: Moving posts
It isn't getting at you it is just a reminder to members that the report function is there to be used and it flags things up to the mods without them having to read through every post in every thread just in case there is something that requires attention.
It isn't OTT to use the report function and it is etremely helpful to the mods. It also saves you having to type so much. Mind you just because you report something don't expect it to be acted on every time. Mods make decisions based on the way that the forum owner wants and with their own experience and that may not be in accordance with your thinking.
Fact is that the forum is here to help people and whilst I have seen that you are very helpful in respect of disability matters deciding which section a thread shouldering the best is often a matter of opinion and not an exact science. So it isn't that your request is being ignored more like for some reason it was decided to leave it where it was. It isn't practical for a mod to either reply in person to each and e dry report with reasons that may then lead to yet more work explanation.
I am not a mod on here but was one for some years elsewhere and know just how much time it can take up.

Re: Moving posts
Where I have transferred threads it has been obvious they belonged on the Disabled matters, but in any case I have left the original in situ. However I do agree that with some subjects it is not always clear or they may apply equally to two forums. I have been tempted to suggest a cross reference system would be helpful, but am afraid if I did I would be attacked for making more work for the poor hard done by overworked volunteer mods!
I have never been a mod myself - I would be too tempted to correct the spelling and grammar! Also I would not have time to post long threads of my own views as my sense of duty would mean I was too busy moving posts!
I thought that "Report" was for objectionable posts, but I will try it in future when I see wrongly placed posts. It would certainly be easier for me, but it is a matter of one's priorities - personally I would hate to think a disabled person missed getting something they needed because no one could be bothered to post in the right place or move mistakes

So not willing to do so yourself but more than happy to criticise the failings, as you see them, of those who are willing to do so ? Or is that an unfair characterisation of your position ?Ragged Robin wrote:I have never been a mod myself - I would be too tempted to correct the spelling and grammar! Re: Moving posts
Simple solution (for everyone) -
1. Create your own forum.
2. Obtain (buy/pay for) sufficient hardware/storage space/internet provider and bandwidth/whatever else necessary to maintain the forum.
3. Decide that you are going to pay for EVERYTHING out of your own pocket - OR -
4. Tell everyone that if they wish to join your forum, they will have to pay (large subscriptions) to join....
5. .....OR - hope that you can finance your (hopefully helpful, interesting and informative) forum by way of advertising....
6. .... and thereafter endure constant carping and criticism because you did not choose option 3.... (and also because you don't run the forum the way that you "should"....)
WOW!!!!! I think I'll go and start my own forum - guess what I'll call it, and what it will be about...

Re: Moving posts
And if you do and need help or technical assistance with doing so then you are more than welcome to ask me for such, just as I helped Nigel with his forum and Hans/AJ with his and others besides in the past. My help would not be dependent on me approving of how you want to run your forum because it would be your forum not mine.jofra wrote:WOW!!!!! I think I'll go and start my own forum ,,,,

Re: Moving posts
Erol,
You like many others on the forum are more than happy to help and offer advice etc “free of charge” which is what makes this such a good forum.
However; some people need to understand that the forum is there for everyone, it may not be perfect in its layout, operation but it’s proven to work for the majority. Everyone uses the forum in their own way so it’s impossible to cater for every single whim.
The growth of the forum over the years has required more cost to keep it running plus of course prevent hackers trying to infiltrate and cause chaos. I am sure the majority of members appreciate that without advertising revenue there would be no forum.
As for the moderation; we do our best, but will never be perfect. I can honestly say that for the majority of the time, moderating is not an onerous task, however it does have its moments! Very rarely does it get very personal and unpleasant, however it has happened and can be quite disturbing.
What I have perfected tho is the skin of a rhinoceros.
Hopefully the majority enjoy the forum and appreciate how useful it has been.

Well, as Abraham Lincoln said (or maybe Bob Dylan in one of his amazing songs... lol ).... you can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time..... you cannot please all of the people all of the time.... wise words.... on the whole this is a fab, useful site..... and the people who think they can do better should go off and set up their own... thank you Soner for your time and effort
