Weeds etc in the Lefkoşa walls causing them to collapse :(

As can be seen by the photograph below, a section of the city walls behind the Presidential Palace has collapsed. It happened yesterday and apparently made quite a noise as it did so. As can also be seen in the photo, the reason for the collapse was weeds and small bushes growing in the walls ... as well as tree roots under the walls.
Besides rebuilding the wall, the authorities also plan on getting rid of the weeds etc causing the damage ... both in the area affected yesterday and the Arabahmet region, on the other side of Girne Kapısı, where parts of the wall have also collapsed due to the same neglect.

According to a press release from the president's office, "the cause of the collapse is not related to weeds and tree roots, but the accumulation of moisture over the years." Of course that has to be true - after all, it's from the president's office, and moreover they wish to correct all the "false" reports that have circulated today about the weeds.
