Bus to Larnaca?
I’ve been told you can catch a bus from Girne to Larnaca. Is this correct? If so where do you catch it, where will they find timetables and can they purchase a ticket in advance?
Many thanks

Re: Bus to Larnaca?
The big hotels around Girne might lay on buses for their customers, but, for public transport, I'm fairly certain you would have to catch a bus from the Greek side of Nicosia. There are two options ;Meggymoo wrote:I’ve been told you can catch a bus from Girne to Larnaca. Is this correct?
(i) to catch the shuttle bus to Larnaca Airport from the Kapnos terminal, about 2 and 1/2 km south of Nicosia's old city.
(ii) to catch a bus from Solomos Square to the centre of Larnaca - In case you don't know, Solomos Square is within walking distance of the Lokmacı crossing point ... near the southern end of Ledra Street.
In any case, I can post the bus timetables for both the routes if you'd like.
By the way, I regularly take the Kapnos shuttle bus - it's fine.

Thank you. That’s very helpful. Yes please to the bus timetables if you don’t mind.
I didn’t think you could get a bus unless it was a transfer via hotels but they’re quite adamant that you can.
I will pass your information onto them. Thanks again

Ok,
so there isn't a bus now, but I'm sure if there was a regular bus service from Girne bus station direct to Larnaca Airport then lots of people would use it!

Ah, but would the RoC authorities permit it? I well remember taking a party of veterans post-Remembrance service here to Wayne's Keep in Lefkoşa on the following Monday to visit the war memorial there to pay their respects and lay wreaths/poppies. The RoC insisted the transport had to come from the RoC. It would NOT allow a TRNC registered bus/coach to transport these old folks, which added to their costs and inconvenience.

But TomSteel, there are at least some TC-plated coaches going to Larnaca Airport - for example the incident (see below) on July 5th involved a TC-plated coach picking up tourists for hotels in Bafra. Clearly from the behaviour of some GCs in that incident alone, it can be understood that many on the south-side vehemently object to TC-plated coaches travelling to the airport, but the GC authorities would seem to be permitting it.tomsteel wrote:It would NOT allow a TRNC registered bus/coach to transport these old folks, which added to their costs and inconvenience.

I can only comment on my/our experience at that time. However, Bafra/Girne - different equation, maybe!

If you contact Wayne's Keep Custodian to arrange a visit to Wayne's Keep he arranges transport to the Cemetery I have arranged this four times in December for 8 people, we go to leave poppies on two graves. The Regiment serving their time there pick you up at Ledra Palace Hotel.

Re: Bus to Larnaca?
We never fly into Larnaca but I know a lot of people who do. It would definitely be a bonus should there ever be a bus service but I myself can never see that happening.
