CCTV cameras recommendations
Sadly we have lost the best security protection anyone could wish for. For 10 years no person got past the gate and onto our property without our knowledge. Replacing her is not an option. Having had an item removed from our garden this week we feel the need to have security cameras fitted. I have been reliably informed that a few properties in our area (Esentepe) have had systems installed (but don’t know by whom) that may be monitored on ones mobile phone. Any advice, recommendations and potential cost would be appreciated.
TIA

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
You could consider these that can be monitored by mobile phones:

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
I bought these last year and fitted them myself with no problems: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SANNCE-8CH-W ... SwS4ddP60E
They work well but have the same problems as all the others when the spiders build webs across the camera!

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
Thanks Paul90. Had a quick look at the link you posted. Will follow it up.
Kiethcaley, again thanks for you suggestion. First port of call was indeed Kibkom history. Very useful feature. Gleaned a little info from the postings but quite a bit out of date now especially when you look at the items suggested by Paul90 and Waddo. Amazing how technology has moved on. Was rather hoping for info from a board member/s who may have paid to have a system installed.
Waddo, again thanks for the link. On a scale from 1 to 10 how easy to install? (10 being very easy) Do you know if the system can be monitored from outside of TRNC on an I Phone?
TIA

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
I put my own cameras up similar to the ones in the amazon link, scale of 1-10 on the installation is 1 being easy I’d give it a 1! You can view from anywhere in the world as long as you have internet or data connection at both ends. There just app based and the camera I got had a bar code so you just scan it and your away.Dropshort wrote:Thanks Paul90. Had a quick look at the link you posted. Will follow it up.

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
This post has now been edited - Dropshort. Scale of 1 to 10 for installation about a 9+ - However, that dreaded word - Keep in mind that you do need electricity close to each camera and that may prove a problem if you want one stuck up a tree at the bottom of the garden! First have a good look around your property and see where you can place them in relation to area coverage and of course Internet connectivity and access. Things to think of - where does the sun come up/go down, would your camera face towards the sun at anytime, have you invasive street lighting that may affect what you can see, will tree branches or plants move in the wind (or grow) and obstruct your view? The following has recently found to be untrue in the TRNC - Apparently there is no law yet regarding positioning of cameras, appolgies for the original missleading information - Remember you are not allowed to have any camera facing a public road or giving you a view of any neighbors property! However, it is common courtesy to limit any camera view to within the bounds of your own property and not be seen as a "Peeping Tom"! It's not as hard as you think because it is all common sense. Other things - yet to be proven - you must display a prominent sign to advise prospective burglars that security cameras are in use and in some areas you need to register the cameras with the local authority. I displayed a sign but the sun has erased all the writing but I know what it said - lol. I will inform the local authority when I have 24/7 water from same, as I pay for this service and only get it when they have run out of excuses and remember to go turn it back on again!
As for working to an iPhone from outside the TRNC I don't know but it works when I go South and as I have not been off Island for the last 12 years and probably won't ever again I have no way of checking.
Almost forgot, if you are going to connect it to your PC as well don't forget that you need to put the master box (complete with it's hard drive for recording - check that a hard drive is supplied or buy one yourself) within reach of the HDMI cable used to connect the video to the PC.
Little things, but you need to be aware of them all to make your life and security plan easy to use and secure itself. Good Luck.

Waddo, brilliant informative response. Thank you so much. Watched a YouTube video on the subject item last night so getting the gist of it now. Already have the CCTV signs on order, picking them up today.

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
As you have probably already realised - any sufficient movement / sudden change of lighting within the camera's field of view will trigger the automatic recording and email alert functions (depending obviously on what parameters, sensitivity etc. you have set, and what you have decided that you want the system to do when a 'trigger event' is detected).
What you may not have considered is that even a tiny animal or bird at close range may be enough to activate the system, and also car headlights from the road may overlap onto your property or be reflected in windows - and again, these may be sufficient to trigger a response...
It is important to minimise the chance of such events, because if they happen frequently, then their nuisance value may outweigh the benefits of having the system installed - the novelty soon wears off! Spiders and flies are regular culprits, and as waddo mentioned, spider's webs! The webs are practically invisible to the camera during the day, when all of the illumination is coming from the area being protected, but at night they are illuminated by the infra-red leds which are usually located on the perimeter of the lens housing, and the infra-red rays are reflected back off the webs towards the lens, creating a dense fog!
A modicum of patience, coupled with trial and error is required - good luck

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
We have one camera located somewhere (I won’t say where - persec!).
One night I checked the camera to see these ghostly figures “walking” about the place in the dark. It gave me the shivers until I realised it was the cobwebs. A quick going over with the brush sorted it. But it did give me a turn I have to admit!

I would have thought that the security system should have a timer facility so that if you are home there is no need to have it set.
Do these systems have SD cards so the system is continually recording in the back ground without giving alerts when the timer is set to off.

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
Basically CCTV gives you a picture of what happens in your immediate area. I am not hi tech and just have a basic record system with access on my IPad if If needed. This system although it did not deter a determined or idiot from breaking into my villa did result in his apprehension and the recovery of 95% of the stolen property. No bells and whistles but it paid for itself many times over. Horses for courses.

Re: CCTV cameras recommendations
Believe me I don’t want to go to all this trouble and expense to install a system, however (and sadly) the fact someone removed an item from my garden and that I caught a young couple last week blatantly going into my neighbours gardens allegedly looking to purchase a villa (mmm) and returned later in the day with (presumably) their parents makes me feel it’s necessary. They moved on rather quickly when I pointed to the “police” cameras mounted on my next door neighbours villa. If at best I can deter or if some idiot decides they will take a chance and I can prove their criminality and have them put out of harms way for a while all well and good.

Honest on a 1 to 10 it's a nine it's the routing of the the leads also do not put them too high as it can be too high for facial recognition just high enough to stop folk from breaking of blocking them out .
Swan do some good systems at selco suggest wired not wireless . As a dropshort you know the problems with wireless !
You have good access to your roof so should be not a problem with paying cables
Ensure you have long enough cables in relation to where your hard drive will be sited.
Also cobwebs are a problem they do need cleaning regularly .
Most record for 45 days before rewrite but you can save entries to your computer.
Do not record sound as this reduces obviously how much data to store.
You can desensitized the area you want to concentrate on
Reboot annually .
Do not leave the cables as much as possible exposed to the sun.
They all can be remotely monitored from your mobile
Hope this helps

Thanks for that Stu. All suggestions thankfully received. You know my place so your recommendation might be another option. Hopefully speak next week.
