Tramadol

I have a prescription for Tramadol, but unable to get it in any chemist. Any ideas.

If you got the prescription from here ask the doctor who issued it. You may be able to get it from a hospital pharmacy. It is difficult to get opioid medication here even when you are in hospital

oh dear, none of my business at all what you take, but I had Tramadol some years ago because of severe back pain - it knocked me out every day, and when I found out that it was an addictive drug I stopped taking it. I'm glad I did, I've heard nothing but bad news about it since, and how you end up being addicted to an opiate. As I said none of my business but please think carefully about this : (

helendj, like you I'm loathe to advise anyone when they have been prescribed by a Dr here but there are probably good reasons why you can't obtain Tramadol, its so horriby addictive, within a week usually. There are web sites and forums of people desperate to get off the stuff. I do suggest you check these out. Two years ago a Dr at the NE in Lefkosia prescribed Lyrica (a similar drug) for severe back pain and sciatica. I had to go to a number of Pharmacists before I could get it and then the pharmacists would only give me a weeks prescription and said he would phone the Dr. concerned. Within 12 hours the pain had completely gone but I had severe nausea, the floor felt as it was made of a Tempur mattress and I was aware my personality was changing when I burst into laughter when I cut my finger badly when chopping carrots. I stopped on the fourth day because I knew for sure that something was going badly wrong. Like helendj I'm aware its none of our business, but please think carefully. We've both been through it.

Thank you Sophie, unfortunately the doctors don't always tell
you of the pitfalls do they. I ended up being treated by a physiotherapist and that did the trick, or there's always acupuncture. I hope Olly can find an alternative to relieve any pain. I wish him well

I wouldn't touch it, Olly. Plenty of other painkillers available.

My wife was prescribed this a few years ago; from the very beginning she was loath to take them as while they stopped the pain, she was so 'high' that we joked that she could save airfare to Cyprus by taking the Tramadol - just 'fly' there!
By her own choice, she used them so sparingly that (due to non-request, they were eventually removed from her 'repeat' prescription - when she did finally need (18 months later!) to request another supply, she had to explain the reason to her doctor. It may be recalled that a British woman was jailed in Egypt in 2017 for carrying Tramadol for her boyfriend...
Similarly, another drug ('Gabapentin'/Neurofentin, prescribed for demyelination) that she has also been prescribed for some years has also recently been reclassified as a 'Class A' drug (after many years!), and she now has to sign on receipt of these tablets...
She/we have no objections/complaints whatsoever regarding these further 'restrictions/controls', indeed, we're quite happy - but it's rather frightening that the danger of these drugs was not realised earlier....

Thank you for all your advice. I was horrified at being prescribed Tramadol in the first place , was told for my condition it was ideal, to take the edge off symptoms. Luckily I only take one dose of 50mg a day, and maybe two paracetamol if needed. Gabapentin, would seriously advise against, prescribed by a Consultant in Uk, thought my condition had taken a turn for the worst, could not get out of bed, and that was on a low dose, try Baklofen, worked for me. But we are all different, and medication affects us all differently.
So I’m happy to carry on taking 50mg a day, seems to work for me. If I can get them.

I've been on, no, use, no, take Tramadol as and when required for my Sciatica, Trapezius Myalgia and Cluster Headaches for more than 10 years now. It seems to be the only thing that works for me in the most severe situations, but alternating with Diclofenac, again as and when required in less severe situations. If i have no symptoms i don't take anything and that can be months. Then i could be on them for a day or two or a week then nothing for weeks or months. The only side effect i find with Tramadol is me getting blocked up.
