Bringing cash back to U.K

Can anyone advise me on the amounts of cash in sterling, we can bring back to U.K and is it double the amount for two people travelling. i.e husband and wife.

According to the Police, Ö.A. (M – 47) was detected as he was trying to leave the country with 118 thousand Euro in his possession without informing the necessary authorities.

Similarly, A.S. (M – 46) was also detected as he was trying to leave the country with 33 thousand US Dollars in his possession without informing the necessary authorities.

A legal process has been started for both individuals.

On the first post you have to look on the right “entering UK.

It does say in the link at Msg 6, that the limit is 10,000 Euros 'if travelling as a family', so I guess a person and spouse would have to travel as independent passengers in order that each can claim the allowance.

PB, I suspect that if both people were on the same plane, it would vount as travelling together!

Assuming (always a risk I know) the poster lives in the TRNC, what is the maximum sum allowed across the Green Line if the intention was to depart Cyprus via a RoC exit point? Does the RoC have a different maximum than the TRNC for entry or departure and do EU/non-EU countries have different amounts for either departure or entry? Why not use either a bank or cash transfer company?

There are notices at Metehan border stating the maximum is E 10,000.

"Travelling in the EU
If you bring cash to the UK from another EU country, you do not need to declare it.

You may need to declare cash you take in to other EU countries - check with the authorities in the country you’re travelling to."

That suggests the 10000 euro limit dosen't apply for uk arrivals from other eu countries??????

This was reported in a local online news board, seems to suggest that you need permission to take large sums of money out of TRNC, certainly via Ercan.


It has been reported that legal action has been taken against 2 people who attempted to leave the country via Ercan with 10000 Euro in possession, without informing the necessary authorities.
According to the Police, on 09.09.19, D.M. (F – 43) was detected as she was attempting to the leave the country via the Ercan Airport with 10000 Euro in her possession without informing the necessary authorities around the hours of 21:30. Furthermore, around the hours of 21:15, S.A. (M – 34) was also detected as he was attempting to leave the country via the same airport with 10000 Euro in his possession.

Legal action has been taken against both suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
