Information wanted

Hi
I've just joined the forum. I'm due out to Kyrenia on the
09/09/19. I'm coming out to find accommodation for my wife and stepson for 6 to 10 months. After that we are looking at possibly relocating there permanently. I'd really like to meet up with some ex pats when I get there to try and get info on temporary residency, turkish health insurance, job prospects and a whole host of other things. I'd like to ask if there is firstly anybody who would like to meet up with me to have a chat with and secondly is there a good expat bar in Kyrenia where I could go to talk to people whilst I'm there for the week. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum. You will,no doubt obtain lots of valuable information on this site to assist you in your venture. I see you mention Kyrenia and if you are east side ie Ozankoy or further then a visit to Tim’s cafe for a breakfast and chat would put you in touch with some ex pats who have lived here for years and can generally offer good advice. I am sure there are other similar places west of Kyrenia equally able to assist. It’s always good to look before you leap and enjoy your visit.

Hi Mickey and welcome.

I can offer some advise based on my own experiences.

Talk to people and make friends, not just ex-pats but locals too, get different opinions, don't expect anything to happen straight away as things are quite laid back in TRNC, but then i suspect that's one of the reasons you want to come.

One thing you will hear probably more than anything else is that living in TRNC is very different to being on holiday there. I'm still in the UK for now but in the final throws of buying property and eventually retire to. My wife Mandy and I have been coming to TRNC at least twice a year since 2012 and we've made many friends during that time, mainly locals, some of which come to the UK to see us, so our decision to buy and eventually settle has not been on a whim.

As for offering advise on how to move and what's involved etc, ask the question when you think the time is right. It's pointless asking now as things will change before too long - they always do.

Above all else, if it's what you want, get your plan together, go for it and stick with it.

My best advise, join the BRS. Talk to ten different people in a bar, get ten different answers and they all know best!
