The Etonian MP
To the tune of “A Modern Major General”
With credit to Robin Wallington Conductor and composer
I am the very model of a prejudiced Etonian
My diction is impeccable, my politics draconian,
I’m quite the polar opposite of what you’d call revisionist
And though I went to public school, at least I’m not a Wykehamist
I’m keeping the tradition of the gentry ent’ring politics
How else are we to keep away the Corbynista Bolsheviks
So through my vivid promises of dividends most decorous
I’ve mobilised the Brexiteers to levels quite obstreperous
I whip them up to frenzy in a manner so Pavlovian
They do not seem to see that it’s increasingly dystopian
So here I stand before you like a skeletal Napoleon
I am the very model of a prejudiced Etonian.
I’ve studied all the Classics from Herodotus to Sophocles
How else am I to criticise my colleagues’ etymologies?
Perhaps that’s why I vote against most freedoms and equalities
These authors are about as old as most of my philosophies!
I know of all the backwards Parliament’ry curiosities
Like letting Commons’ priv’lege keep me safe to spout atrocities
I know the terminologies, chronologies and glossaries
And yet I still behave as if we never lost the colonies.
I often drain the public funds to renovate my properties
Although I have more money than some smaller world economies
I never make apologies for lack of reciprocities
Despite the fact that swathes of Britons lack basic commodities!
My views on social issues haven’t changed much since the Tudor times
I rage against the slightest change to long-outdated paradigms
I lack the base ability to sympathise or empathise
My Commons’ sprawl exemplifies the privilege I symbolise
When criticised on Women’s Rights I hide behind Catholicism
Bending it to justify my heart-of-stone Conservatism,
Yet I sound the clarion of fear of fundamentalism
Without seeming to acknowledge this inherent dualism,
I try to paint a picture of a Brexit most utopian
And when they all explain to me the likely pandemonium
I patronise my critics with my methods Ciceronian

He is bored stiff by all the moaning and whining.
Whatever his education, money etc JRM is a very highly thought of MP for his North Somerset constituency and let’s be honest not many in the HoC have more knowledge than him of the strange quirks, processes, procedures and the way business should be conducted.
His appointment as Leader of the House was very astute and he is more than a match for many politicians and this includes the Speaker Bercow.

It is amusing when ex Eton pupils are picked out as an elite by other members of the elite.
Corbyn went to private school and somehow managed not to get a qualification. Seamus Milne is an ex Winchester pupil who's fees are higher than Eton. Dianne Abbott who consistently votes against private schools sends her own son private.
There is always an elite, do you think Stalin's kids went to the local comp?
Corbyn, McDonnell, Milne etc are the 1%.

McDonnell has just purchased an idyllic riverside second home in Norfolk. For the many not the few?

It is heartening(?) to see what good use to which a self-promoting customer-seeking advertisment link is put; but while inferences of expensive, private (and exclusive?) secondary educational establishments are made, impartial descriptions differ -
"Haberdashers' Adams is a grammar school for boys aged 11–18 and girls aged 16–18, located in Newport, Shropshire, offering day and boarding education.[1] It was founded in 1656 by William Adams, a wealthy member of the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers (one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London). In January 2018 the school changed its name to Haberdashers’ Adams, replacing the previous name, Adams' Grammar School (AGS). Adams regularly places in the top 50 schools throughout the country and top 20 state schools nationally based on GCSE and A Level results, and is rated by Ofsted as a Grade 1 outstanding school. "
I went to a "private" school as did my brother; we BOTH went to secondary school and started work at the age of fifteen...
Do not patronise us, do not insult us, and do not brand us - OR OTHERS!

Too much daily mail and express nonsense. Fact checking sometimes helps.,my understanding was that Adams was a taxpayer supported school since 1950, but hey maybe I was wrong.

I did fact check and found that Castle House is a two to three grand a term touch. Whilst Adams doesn't seem to charge fees, it is a selective grammar school in a nice area. You know one of those selective grammar schools that Corbyn and his mates won't let you send your kids to if they can help it.desih wrote:Too much daily mail and express nonsense. For the more canny and less thick skinned MP Its an old Labour trick to send their kids to a selective but free school in a nice area.
eg you are the MP in Peckham and tell your constituents how great the local schools are and how evil selective/grammar/private schools are but slip your kids into the selective school in 'nearby' Knightbridge. That way you can bluff a bit and say your kids go to a state school. It might get you through a polygraph!
As a rule of thumb brothers called Piers and Jeremy or any of their kids/grandchildren aren't going to be going to the schools that Corbyn, Milne, McDonnell and Abbott are choosing for your kids.

Not sure who this is aimed at? I'm a great believer in private education or basically letting people spend their money how they wish. Not everyone who goes to private school is a member of the landed gentry or the offspring off some evil factory owner. That is just propaganda from a party that practices the politics of envy. Many people send their children to a private school by scrimping and saving, doing overtime, never going on holiday or upgrading their car.jofra wrote:

He should have tried getting one in Gardening. Seeing him come out of his house on the news almost on a daily basis, you'd think he or Laura would do a spot of weeding and pruning here and there.EnjoyingTheSun wrote:Corbyn went to private school and somehow managed not to get a qualification.

He is probably on the horns of a dilemma there;
a) Probably feels he can't hire a gardener because that will interfere with his man of the people schtick. Remember he can only guess how ordinary people feel/react because he IS one of the elite.
b) As far as I can judge he seems to be pretty useless at everything and tbh a little retarded so will make it worse.

well thanks for posting it anyway Dipppersgirl. It made me laugh, even if a bit wryly, which is more than much else on Kibkom , or for that matter, the news has done recently. Which does not mean that I entirely agree with it, but the thing abouts satire is that there has to be an element of truth to give it an edge. Whatever his qualities as an MP the pose certainly suggests that JRM has nothing but disdain for the House of Commons and its members.
The tragedy about education is not the difference between private and state education, but the deterioration in he standard of state education. In my day a good grammar school (I assume that is what EJS means by "selective") gave as good an education than many a Public School and all you had to do was work hard - though admittedly supportive teachers and parents helped. The advantage that

Imho The tragedy about education is not the difference between private and state education, but the deterioration in he standard of state education. In my day a good grammar school (I assume that is what EJS means by "selective") gave as good an education as many a Public School and all you had to do was work hard - though admittedly supportive teachers and parents helped. The advantage that "The old school tie" brigade" has is not a classical education but contact with fellow pupils whose" old man" is "something in the city" etc..
It saddens me when people who had all the opportunities that state education should give boast of being badly educated. My eldest aunt left school aged 12 to go into service and until her death (before the IT revolution) sent me letters in a better hand and with better syntax than many younger correspondents.

Absolutely RR, I have to say that his performance as leader of the house is better than most actors, the flair is stunning, and his looks just the epitome of the title of my thread (to me as a German most definitely), but the thought that he could be a PM or similar is seriously scary!!!satire is that there has to be an element of truth
