Turkish residency rules. Can anyone help?
Can anyone clarify the rules and regulations on residency in mainland Turkey. We are possibly looking to relocate but all the info we are getting seems to be very contradictory. Is there anyone out there who can perhaps give a direction to look or alternatively give me an insight from personal experiences.

If u do Facebook docmartin has a page with all the residency detail. Or have a look at turkishlivingforum for details. Lot more expensive for residency in Turkey and if u are under 65 its compulsory to have health insurance. Before u move over my suggestion is that you go over for a month and rent somewhere to see what the cost of living is like, it's not always an easy place to live. Hence our being here instead.

There do seem to be a lot of people moving from Turkey to TRNC rather than the other way around...

Yes l agree Keith, after 20 years of part-time living we sadly chose to move away. Love Turkey with all my heart and sadly miss a lot of our local friends but not many expats left due to many reasons, but residencies being the most due to the costs of the health insurance. The locals are'nt as friendly and happy as they always were mainly due to the extreme daily living costs, poor wages etc. Expats find the cost of health insurance very high. Electric has gone up over 150% in past couple of years and food and alcohol very high as is vehicle costing, it all mounts up. Nowhere is perfect but it does at the moment seen a lot easier here. But a word of warning Turkey can be a very difficult place to live theses days so anyone thinking about it my advice would be " try before you buy"

Can only agree with all you say war horse. Turkey is a very different place now from twenty years ago. Apart from the rising costs there is also the political situation which has polarised society and the people are reluctant to trust each other now, never mind the foreigner. KKTC is a much easier place to live in almost every way I would say. In fact it is making me smile the amount of people here who are complaining about the possible changes to permits and visas to live or visit here. They want to try doing it in Turkey!
